Many people do still believe in God these days and I think a lot of people need to, just to make sense of what life is all about. It isn't a clear or logical answer but it IS an answer. Also, I think that Christianity became quite 'uncool' for a time, but hopefully that trend is now changing. I go to midnight mass at Christmas and the church is always full, although it may not be at other times. What this means I do not know.

Lots of people believe in gods these days, but some do not. The vast majority that do not believe in gods simply find no good reason to do so.

People are born atheists. If you are not taught to believe in a god, you will not just spontaneously decide to do so. And it need not be explicitly "taught" per se, but sometimes just exposure to a culture that believes in god(s). Therefore, it's better to ask believers why they believe, rather than ask atheists why they don't.

Sarah, God was made up by people, with a reason to give others hope, and to fill in spces, because people in those times didnt know as much as we do now, they needed something to believe in other ways they would have spent all their lifes asking questions who no one could answer.

People who believe in God these days are simply born in a place where everyone believes in God so he/she has no choice really but to be thought to believe God.

The ones who dont believe in God just dont see a reason why people now who know much more would still belive in shuch people made nonsense as God.

people do believe in god and people don't.... i think there is no sens to any one be not believing in god ... his signs every where around us and in our self ... the job of mind is thinking Allah gave us that to think ... when we have mind and do not make his job ... then we don't have one ..... it seems like u found a boat and if have been asked who make this boat ....u will tell Ur friends " no one make it ... it is just have been made by it self" u get the point?.... when u look deep in your self and heart .. u will know him ... when u look deep in the world a round u will know him ... the prophet Ibrahim knew him by himself ... he just was thinking. " there is no god but one god "...
i will give u some evedins that there is one god to worship :
1- the all universe is running with ONE system. u never see sun shining from west.
When u see the Atom while the Electron moving a round the Kernel .. this movement is counter wise& when u see all plants, moons and all the SUN GROUP all around counter wise …. When u see people a round Kea bah move counter wise .
2-motherhood in every thing " animals and humen been".
3-propagation .
and many many signs...... etc.

The answer is much like it has been since the Garden. Some believe in their own needs and pleasures more than God. Some choose God instead, but more or less is not as crucial as me or you - do we believe.

God was a concept developed back in the days when people couldn't find logical, natural explanations for different phenomena. As science developed and we discover more and more reasons behind what we see, God becomes more and more irrelevant.

I don't believe in God because I can't come to believe that a 'bigger being' created this whole universe. I am the sort of person who needs facts, answers and proof to cement my belief in something and religion doest give me those answers.

i do not beleive in god and do not follow any religion. This does not mean i think i am right.I respect eveyone's religious beliefs.I was bought up as a catholic and strongly disagreed with the way i was taught to fear.It is my belief that religion should have it's basis in love not fear.I am not familiar with the teachings of religions and have no desire to know.IMaybe it is my sceptical nature that does not permit me to believe but i have chose to live my life in peace and harmony with my fellow man and have no fear of judgement.Death and the theory of an afterlife does not enter into my philosophy so neither can god.

Some do, some don't.

The reason there are atheists today is the same reason there have always been atheists: there has always been a segmented of the population where faith is not enough and proof for extraordinary things is required.

To Joe:
What do you have to gain by stereotyping atheists as immoral, selfish and sinful?

How arrogant.

Yup, and you should too!!! (IMHO)!

BTW - it is God - not god!

Why would one NOT believe in The Creator? Do you really think that all of this came about by chance??? Even the smartest man to have ever lived (Albert Einstien) believed in God! [Okay, my spelling bites]!!!

Nuff said (and it's bedthyme here)

Stay well and God Bless!

Hope this helps -
