I am a seeker and always interested in reading about various religious beliefs and theologies as I always learn more about my own religious history. I've recently begun reading the Book of Mormon and I understand that the original golden tablets were stored for a couple thousand years in stone inside the earth before being found and translated. Are these original golden tablets on display in a museum? I have yet to discover their whereabouts and I'm earnestly seeking. Thanks in advance for your help.

No, they are not displayed anywhere...after the finish of the translation they were taken back from Joseph I think by Moroni...and I am sure the Lord had his reasoning for not wanting the world to destroy the plates....also, I think it shows great faith for those of us who pray to our Heavenly Father seeking the truth instead of seeking "physical" evidence. Sometimes I think the Lord "weeds out" those who are just seeking for signs and won't first put their faith in him...because it is after the faith miracles happen and answers are given.
I suggest you prayerfully read the Book of Mormon, don't just read to be reading, and also the missionaries can answer any questions you have, also I suggest you read the testimonies that are recorded in the first of the book, Joseph's, the 3 witnesses and the 8 witnesses...Good luck

Translation was completed around July 1, 1829 (Van Horn 1881), after which Smith reportedly returned the plates to the angel (Smith 1853, p. 141). Some Latter Day Saints, such as Brigham Young, have believed that Moroni returned the plates to Hill Cumorah and that other ancient records lie buried there, including the Sword of Laban and The Interpreters, special spectacles given to Smith to aid the translation process.

No, they are not in a museum.
The plates were returned to the Lord shortly after the work of translating them was complete. There were certain people besides Joseph Smith who were allowed to see them, and their testimonies are recorded in the beginning of the Book of Mormon, before 1 Nephi. They are called the Testimony of the 3 Witnesses and the Testimony of the 8 Witnesses. Even though several of these witnesses later left the Church, they never recounted their testimony that they did in fact see the plates. Here is what Joseph Smith had to say about it.

“I soon found out the reason why I had received such strict charges to keep them safe, and why it was that the messenger had said that when I had done what was required at my hand, he would call for them. For no sooner was it known that I had them, than the most strenuous exertions were used to get them from me. Every stratagem that could be invented was resorted to for that purpose. The persecution became more bitter and severe than before, and multitudes were on the alert continually to get them from me if possible. But by the wisdom of God, they remained safe in my hands, until I had accomplished by them what was required at my hand. When, according to arrangements, the messenger called for them, I delivered them up to him; and he has them in his charge until this day, being the second day of May, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-eight.”

No one saw the plates? Cant prove it?
Haha some people have no clue.
Quite a few people saw them in fact, and the proof of that is with their testimony and names in the front of the book. They held it with their hands, turned the pages.
Truth is, some of these men (who were VERY upperclass) businessmen, mayor, trusted by the whole town, that kind of stuff) God wouldnt want a bunch of drunk bums for his witnesses would he? Some of these men even got excommunicated from the church, but EVEN ON THEIR DEATHBEDS!!! they testified that they saw the gold plates. Even the ones that never came back to the church. years and years after Joseph had was murdered.

And if no one ever saw the plate as some of you say, why did Joseph have to hide them from all the looters that were trying to steal them away from him the day he got them.
Why would a whole town/state go on such a wild goose chase... that still continues today. So no, you cant find them on display in a museum, but you can read the nice typed up book form.
its not so heavy...

As others have stated, once the translation was complete, they were taken up. That is why the testimonies at the beginning of the Book of Mormon, of those who saw the actual plates, etc. is so important. It is interesting that although not all of those who witnessed them stayed in the Mormon church, not one of them ever denied their statement that they were true.

Whose story do you want?
Historical Christians say that they never existed. The language also never existed. This is the only alleged resource ever known to exist in the language "Reformed Egyptian". No evidence of such a language is known.
Mormons will tell you that Joseph Smith handed them back to an angel when he was done. There is no way to go back to check the original language for greater understanding in the original language of what is said.

Mr. Smith said that he found the tablets, and that he was the only one able to translate them. Nobody ever saw them. Instead, he would go behind a curtain and "translate" them to somebody who would write down his words. That was the way it went down. Nobody saw them, nobody has them, etc. etc. All lies. No proof for a single non-religious fact that is the Book of Mormon (anthropological history). Instead, there are massive amounts of disproof. Versus the Bible, which is proved a whole lot of the way, and nothing has been disproved, some things just haven't been put either way yet.
