I'm looking to get a sight for for one of my rifles, I want something with fast target aquisition and low magnification if any. I was thinking Red Dot, HOLOgraphic, or peep sights. I'm putting these sights on a rifle I do some CQB drills with and I use for deer hunting in bush. No worries, It's a bigger cal than the 5.56x45 haha. The farthest shooting I plan to do with it is 150 yards. Thanks!

i recently bought a Barska holographic sight for my slug gun and i love it. when i snap the gun to my shoulder the dot is right there and you can choose between a small red dot, large dot, cross hairs, or a circle with a center dot. and best of all it only cost $100.00.

Eotech 550 series, Aimpoint comp M/ML series, and Leupold CQ-T are all great.

They offer lightning fast target aquisition offer no magnification and are paralax free. You can shoot with both eyes open and have superior field of view.

For CQB 1X or no magnification will work great and be fast, same for hunting up close. If hunting at greater range consider the CQ-T which has variable magnification or the Aimpoint 3x adapter.

I have a Aimpoint CompM2 (m68cco) on my M-4and can shoot at 200 yards keeping 4-5 M.O.A
not bad for a zero magnification sight and a 14.5" Barrel

I have both a Red Dot and a Holosight. I find the Holosight easier to acquire a sight on the target with it but the Red Dot is easier to see the dot than the Holosight. The Holosight is actually a hologram that appears to project a dot or other figure on your target. Mine has a ring with four spokes that you simply superimpose on your intended target. The only problem with mine is that the ring doesn't appear as a sharply focused ring. It is a bit fuzzy. It cannot be improved. The dot on the Red Dot sight is sharp as a tack but not quite as easy to find when you are attempting to acquire a sight on your target but it is not a really big deal. Each has its plusses and minuses and I shoot both. If I didn't already have the Holosight, I wouldn't pay the extra money for one, I'd go with the Red Dot. It's a LOT cheaper.

I have a Bushnell Holosight and although it's a good idea in theory this particular model is a piece of garbage. The batteries set back under recoil and switch the sight off. You can temporarily cure it by pulling on the springs which form the battery contacts, but in the end it's a useless design and you have to wonder whether they even teted it. On a 223 it works well enough, but on a 357 lever action it switches off after every third or fourth shot. The mount is built in and is very very shallow, it won't reliably mount to a Picatinny rail. The reticle also looks bad, it has a dotted look, I thought maybe it was my eyes but it is visible on a picture too.

I currently have a EOTECH 550 holosight on my M4 here in Afghanistan and would bet my life on it I've also used the Aimpoint red dot sight while in Iraq on my M249 it was realy fast butthe dot is a little big as it covers targets out at 300 meters. For what you are looking to do eitther would be good options I also have a Nikon red dot on a target .22 pistol at home and like it but I think it might be fragile for field work.

Hope this helped

Keep both eyes open. Leopold makes a great model that has variable magnification 1x, 2x, & 3x but its a real hit to the wallet at around $800.

Go with the EOtech. It seems to be a littlefaster to acquire(a least for me) and if your keeping both eyes open the field of view seems larger.
