Maybe in India. That would absolutely not be the case in America, because a) Amtrak won't reveal their passenger manifest to anyone other than the police, and b) many Amtrak trains are unreserved, even if the ticket is bought with a credit card, it's not tied to a particular train, and could be used on any day's train, any hour, either direction. That is always true of commuter trains, subways, streetcars etc.

In most parts of the world, you can't. Trains are run on a 'turn up and go' basis and unlike aircraft or ships no passenger manifest is carried.
