Because first, men have no balls. Second they have no balls because they are scared of that ring being put on the womans finger. It makes it real, and legal as well. It is not an easy thing to take this (however real or imagined) freedom away. That is what it feels like to a man. Loosing his freedom. It is tough, I have lost mine, but eventually you just deal and learn to live without it.

I believe a lot of men are afraid of commitment. More men than women tend to be afraid of the word "marriage." I cannot say that it is in their nature, but women are designed to be more wanting the feeling of security and stability than men. It's completely natural.
I think that when the man is bringing up the subject of marriage with you, he may be wanting to know your viewpoint on marriage and children.
Try not to rush him or drop obvious hints. Men tend to dislike that behavior because they may feel rushed and get scared off.
Just relax and take it slow. If you are meant to be, then eventually the time will come, and it will be worth the wait.

They are affraid of commitment and are not always ready. Some men want to be more financially stable. If you believe this person and know they are not saying it just to manipulate you I would take this as a good sign. Some men will not even talk about it.

because once you get married all of the sudden something happens to that fun hot girl you use to date. It happens after the first year of marriage. For most marriages sex decrease's dramatically and it's not cuz the men stopped being horny.

yeah.. the first two answers seem to be quite true.. Alot of them just say it to shut you up or get in your pants..
But then alot could mean it too- only they want to be 100% sure before they commit. Some know that's what they want, but at the same time, the thought could really scare them.. Who knows. They're men..

because forever is a LONG time & they want to make sure they are ready for FOREVER!
plus, it often takes men a longer time to mature & get to the whole nesting stage. women get all ready to settle down really quickly.
i think men and women -generally- tend to leven each other out with their extreme one way or another ways...

Insecurity....marriage is still a life long commitment...no one wants to get married and then divorce. They want to feel 10000% sure....I think most of them wonder "if" there is someone else out there even if they are in love with you....

it's a cheap way of making the girl happy and let her feel secure.... and if we are honest, we still afraid of the commitment that comes afterward.
