God likes his people like he likes his women - obedient and dumb.

Sounds like he hit the jackpot.

Sorry, Bomb Diggity, but it DOES call for/praise intelligence, AND accepting education, formal and otherwise:

Proverbs 1: 1-6

"The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

To KNOW wisdom and INSTRUCTION; to PERCEIVE the words of understanding;

To RECEIVE the INSTRUCTION of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

To GIVE SUBTLETY to the simple, to the young man KNOWLEDGE and DISCRETION.

A wise man will hear, and will INCREASE LEARNING; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings."

...it is to be noted that from the Hebrew/Jewish point of view, spiritual wisdom and practical intelligence are linked - and lacking one causes the other to degenerate.

Sorry but Proverbs isn't speaking of any type of formal education...it is speaking of "spiritual" wisdom. Proverbs 1:7 sums it up nicely - FEAR of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. No, there is no verse that praises intelligence.

proverbs 1 is about wisdom...

8. Hearken, my son, to the discipline of your father, and do not forsake the instruction of your mother;
9. for they are a wreath of grace for your head and a necklace for your neck.

also in proverbs 8, wisdom is actually "talking" and describing itself... its kind of interesting

EDIT

lol yes because minding your parents was considered the beginning of wisdom...

2. To know wisdom and discipline, to comprehend words of understanding;
3. To receive the discipline of wisdom, righteousness, justice, and equity;
4. To give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth.
5. Let the wise man hear and increase learning. The understanding man shall acquire wise counsels
6. to understand an allegory and a figure, the words of the wise and their riddles.

thats the beginning of proverbs 1, which you may find as more acceptable wisdom.

I can only think of Solomon's wisdom and the political wisdom of Joseph in becoming an advisor to the Pharoah.

There is a quote by Susan B. Anthony "It shall be the most remarkable thing about the bible - that there is not one word in favor of intellect in the whole work."

Still, I don't know that it's true. Still! I can't name one! :)
