I had mono last year and I didn't kiss anyone (except my dog), share drinks, silverwear, etc. Why did I get mono?

It is just a virus, slightly different from a cold but transmitted the same way. Mono used to be called the kissing disease because that was a common way to spread it.

Yes, i didn't kiss anyone or share anything w/ anyone but i got mono after going to a restaurant--food poisoning.

Mononucleosis is oftentimes misunderstood. You see, a solid majority--95%--of people contract the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) at some point during their lives. If you contract EBV during adolescence or young adulthood, you might also get mononucleosis. So basically, you have contracted EBV & as a result of it you got mononucleosis.

You will never get mononucleosis again; however, your immune system will carry a permanent EBV infection for the rest of your life.

If you spit in somebody's mouth, sharing things that have been in your mouth, like sharing a fork or utensils, drinking from the same cup, if you eat at a restaurant and one of the cook's has mono and some how his saliva gets transmitted onto your food. If you lick something that somebody with mono has licked before you licked it.

Sure, If you share a soda, or a sandwich, or anything with another you can get mono.

I got it from a lollipop, I was fairly young and dumb.

If you are hoping this will save you from scrutiny from he or she who may feel suspicious, not to worry, they probably have it too. So, as onset seems to be kind of individual, it becomes a mutually susupicious situation.

Good luck with this.

You can get mono from anything. Drinking off someones glass. Sharing lip gloss with friends. It is highly contagious. Just being around someone with it could make you catch it.
