My elderly aunt is 80 years old. She's quite specific about discomfort and pain she experiences at home and then when we get to the Dr., she says, "I'm doing great." It's like the opposite of hypochondria. She's not faking because she has been diagnosed with several severe conditions but it's only through testing that the doctors and nurses are able to find out that anything is wrong. I didn't think much of it at first but I'm afraid this condition is going to keep her from being diagnosed properly when I'm not there to go to the doctor's office with her. Is there a medical term for this?

I don't know about a medical term for it but often people have the aches and pains but they don't want to bother the doctor with it. They feel the doctor is way to busy with sick people and that they shouldn't be wasting the doctors time with their trival problems so the tell the doc they are fine just so they don't "waste the docs time" when he could be tending to people sicker than they are. One way around this is to ask to talk to the doc or his nurse in private BEFORE they acutally see your aunt. That way you can tell them what has really been going on so that when they see your Aunt and she says she is doing fine they can tell that her that this is not what they heard from the niece. I had to do this with my grandma when she was having problems.

i'm not sure if there is a specific term for it, but i see it all the time. sometimes i see patients that complain about everything and sometimes you see patients like your aunt. This is usually due to stubborness or just being tired. Many elderly patients don't feel like going through alot of test especially if they been through them before. So this makes them keep things from their physicians. Some also feel like they're old and tired and if something is wrong with them they don't want to deal with it. because to them the tests and treatments are worse than how they are feeling.

Yes, it's called Complainia Detailismus Allimentia Speicfica Malidia Specificallia. Unfortuneately, it's only cured by your going to her house for tea and keeping her company every afternoon, like YOU SHOULD BE DOING, YOU DUMB BUTT!
