Why should not we get united with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Nepal, Bhutan and emerge as one strong Indian Nation. We can even consider Tibet and Maldives. Does anyone share my idealogy. If against what could be your reason.

Whether possible, or no; we should not even suggest it! During the separation of last 60 years, the society of the two countries have grown in extremely different directions in more than one ways: Democracy vs Dictatorship; Freedom of speech vs Govt Sponsored Terrorism; Socio-Economic diversity; Education and Freedom of Thought vs Stone Age restrictions; Peace loving people vs Jehadis; and so on. A federation that promotes peaceful trading between the two countries should be good enough - for now and it shall continue for at least say next 20 years without any skirmish on the border. Those thinking of "unification" must visit Germany, and stay with people in West as well as East Germany for some time, and understand the problems created by the "unification" of the countries that were separate for 50+ years after the world war II. People in the west Germany did not like the decision; and though the people in the east now breathe easy, they are introduced to "uncertainty" in jobs. Unification may look good on paper, it will be very difficult to unify the people, the military, the administration, and so on. More than anything else, this may create a situation similar to that of post Aug 1947 or present Kashmir across all regions in both the countres.

India was a big country encompassing Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Tibet and Maldives. Religions, colonization by other countries and politcs dessipated the Indian empire and crumbled into smaller states. Reuniting these countries is hard but a realization of it will mean a powerful nation.

Others have put it bluntly. In Pakistan the Muslims, especially the extremists and fanatics, would be terrified of Hindu dominance. (The same reason as they insisted upon partition in 1947!)

In India the Hindu militants and extremists would of course be terrified of such a huge number of Muslims infusing the new nation. (This Super-India would go from 15% Muslim to 35% Muslim overnight! Remember that Hindu extremists murdered Mohandas K. Gandhi simply for his friendship towards the Muslim people and Pakistan.)

Of course you do make one very valid point, this new Super Nation would have 1.5 billion population and be the largest population on Earth. With its combined economic growth, military and nuclear weapons, it would certainly be an emerging economic and military super power.

(But forget about Tibet. Without a Chinese Soviet-style collapse (and the Chinese are NOT the Soviets) then there is no way to get Tibet without a war (probably nuclear) with the PRC!)

It sounds nice, but I think that it is impossible from the things we see today.

A wise man once said that the theory of dividing a land into religious and political sects don't work. There are more Muslims in India than in Pakistan. And just look at how the Shias and Sunnis fight in Pakistan.

The same thing with the Isreal Palestine issue and the North and South Koreas.

There are always religious and political conflicts in any region, they should not be solved through division, they should be solved through order and justice against the wrong doers. There are always bad people in all sects.

Take a year off & start studying your history. The British had them lumped into a single colony. When they left, they split the Hindu & Muslim populations into 2 nations. Bangladesh was once part of Pakistan. Now if they had only done the same in Iraq . .

I think you are guilty of idealism. Nice stuff, but doesn't work in the real world often..

Yes, if India becomes a prosperous and democratic nations all Pakistanis and Bangladeshis will want to be Indian regardless of religion like Mexicans want to be Americans (US citizens). Then the Indians from South Africa will rush towards Delhi too. If not it will be a strained relationship bound to end in bitterness just like the former USSR.

Your comparison of India-Pakistan and the rest is not matching the "fiasco" of the big 3 with Re: to East and West Germany.
The Germans had no choice ! at that time.
The Countries you are speaking of had; and made their choice now dint' they?

Well everyone else told you, there are too many religious, political, ethnic and national conflicts to even attempt a unification. None of the nations you've mentioned (India included) even dreams of giving up their sovereignity without a fight (and do remember that two of these countries you refer to have nukes).

Unless you want a massive war over there... be careful of what you wish for.

Why, so India would exploit Pakistan like the Western Germans exploit their Eastern "brothers?"
