I have a neice who's birthday is tomorrow I called my sister in law to ask if we could drop off a gift and she told me that they were having a party for her and to bring my boys to it. She has free tickets. The party was planned weeks ago and we feel that its a pity invitation. especially since she had free tickets that she wasn't going to use and still didn't call to invite her nephews. Should we go?

Have the same problem in my family. Some people really just aren't considerate. You could just drop off the gifts and say you had other plans, but if your kids would like to go, I'd say go and have fun for the sake of your niece,
she can't help it that she has parents like these. It would mean alot to your niece. Good Luck.

Reverse the situation......what would you want her to do and how would it effect all of the children involved.

AS adults sometimes we forget the children.

Are your children close with her children, if they found out that they were invited and Mom chose for them not to go...how big would the impact be? How would your nieces feel towards you?

All aside....we know your sister in-law was wrong......or maybe she was just thinking about friends of the children....and not family?

Tread carefully......this is family.....any decision you make will leave a mark.

Best wishes

it truly is a astonishing theory. it really isn't any longer impolite to decline the invitation as they're probable inviting you out of habit besides to be polite. Decline in a polite way, and deliver a small present and a card.

Never. You will strengthen feelings of inadequacy if you go. Find something else to do, and don't cowtow.

Drop off the gifts on the way to a movie. Have your own fun!

This will live on as a good example of self-control for your children.

Nope, do something else. It doesn't sound like she was going to call you or her nephews if the party is tomorrow. Was it a girls only party?

if your kids want to go and would be treated well, go. if you've involved your kids in this 'pity invite' discussion, you're messing them up with your anxieties and perceptions. that's unfair to them. hopefully, you didn't and you can just judge on whether they want to go or not.

your solution is lots of alcohol!! you can easily lift your spirits and ruin a perfectly normal day by drinking excessively. they will regret even "pity" inviting you. and you will be happy in the fact that you made a point.

I'm sorry but your question is very confusing. Tickets to what ? And do you think she pitys you or her daughter? i'm sorry I just don't understand this question.

If you think your kids would like it- go and have fun.
