We decided early on that we would neither shield or promote any religion with our kids, letting them decide what they want to believe when they are old enough to do so. The 4 yr old has taken to asking questions because of his grandmother's beliefs, which I've dealt with by saying "Some people believe that, but that doesn't make it true. Many other people believe different things." He shrugged it off for the most part. If he happens to become christian at some point in his life...so be it. It's a personal choice.
I have started watching Cartoon Network with him though. I find it a truly reprehensible tactic for them to air commercials for christian music during a time when the young kids are watching the channel. That is brainwashing.

Sure, I'd let them buy it. I want my kids to make their own choices and decide upon their religion. If they want to be Christian, the I have no problem with that. Christians don't bother me at all. I don't believe that I'm right and that they're wrong. There's no way to tell who's right or wrong. The only time I have ever gotten upset by a Christian is when a woman started screaming that I worshiped the devil. But I know one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch.
All I want is for my kids to grow up to be good people.

i don't have kids yet, and i'm not really atheist, i'm agnostic, meaning i don't know what to believe in and it's going to take proof for me to believe in something. but anyway, i think that i would let them listen to it just like christian kids know the "dredle dredle" song and jews know all the christmas songs out there. it'd just be an appreciation for the christian culture. and i think it's difficult for a child to convert themselves to christianity. it's more of what your upbringing is. i mean, just because i listened to some Indian music, doesn't mean i'll start worshiping cows. and besides, if my child would choose a religion, they are entitled to making that personal choice. i believe that enforcing a religion or way of thinking is wrong, and one's heart cannot be in it if they didn't choose that way of life, and were "kindly" forced to take on those beliefs. what will be will be. to each his own.

WRONG! I am agnostic, and I hate it. I see all you people with all your beliefs, whether it be God or Atheism, or anything else, and I am jealous. I want something to pop out at me and seem real. If my child wanted a Christian CD, I'd buy it for him. I believe everyone should be given the chance to find their own path in life, even my own child. If he chooses Christianity, I'll support him, if he chooses atheism, I can support that as well. I love him, and as long as he is not harming himself, or anyone else, I'll support him no matter WHAT!

To angk: =P =P =P I happen to like Garth!! lol
Just pickin' on ya. (But I really do like Garth)
-- Not atheist (I'm Pagan) nor a parent but I would let my children listen to what ever they wanted. Granted if it were christian music I would make them wear headphones so i wouldn't have to listen to it. I have 3 nieces that I am like a second mom to. They come over with their Christian music and I don't mind if they listen to it (still, with the headphones lol).

Well, i'm a christian, and I would not let my child listen to something I didnt approve of, say, slip knot or manson. So I dont see why an athiest parent would allow his child to listen to christian music. If the person was agnostic, an the other hand, the childs chances may be a little better.

Parents should support their children in whatever they wish to believe. If the parent is an atheist and the children likes Christianity (or Islam, etc.) than the parent should accept that and encourage their children to hold these convictions as unbreakable as they do in not believing in God.

Well I'm atheist and I listen to a band called Anberlin, and they're a Christian rock band but don't use words like Jesus or "god."
Music is music if my kids want than I'll give...if they deserve it, I don't want spolied kids.
