It doesn't matter. She will have more playing with the box it came in.

My daughter is 2 1/2, for her second birthday we bought her books, puzzles and a Elmo (plain old stuffed Elmo, no bells or whistles). But grandma sent her a rocking horse, she likes that.
Elmo and Sesame Street things are great. Same with books, you still want to get the colorful board books. My girl really likes outdoor stuff... A big sand box is her favorite...
A family membership to the zoo is great too If there is one close by.

I don't have a 2yr old daughter, but I do have two nieces in this age group. Both of them are absolutely addicted to anything Dora the Explorer. I bought them each a Dora board puzzle, and they have the books that talk and make sounds when you press a button. I also got them a couple of Dora dvd's. Good Luck and Merry Christmas.

Two year old girls at this point seem to like anything with the Disney princesses or Dora the Explorer on it.
Try a baby doll, a special pillow or something she can cary with her. Our neices like anything with Dora... like a backpack or a game. Even her own special cup or plate.

Check out LEAP FROG. Learning toys for her age group that repeat phonetics, ABC, numbers and music. Always have classical music playing softly in her room, even while she sleeps.
The same goes with phonetic and nursery rhyme Cd's. The child will learn in her sleep. Also, select things that the two of you play together. It is not enough to sit her by herself and say DO, without your input.

A purse (get one from goodwill) with "grown-up" things inside; like old keys, key chain, sunglasses, band-aids, and other things you would find at the dollar store. Make sure nothing is a choking hazard. Or, get her a toy shopping cart with play food, or a tea set. Again make sure that it is age appropriate.

I have a grand-daughter that will be two in a couple of months and she loves dolls and tea sets. She likes to play like she is feeding them and cooking.
