Oh my. I was going to say that they aren't until I read the answers that you got here. WOW. Talk about people being brainwashed by their Ministers. They are the ones to be pitied. They are full of hate and are not even aware that it pours out of them as it does.
People, People, People... Roman Catholics do not worship statues, or do the things that most of you have said here! Please don't speak out about things that you do not understand. Some ministers, most of whom were never properly educated, are the ones who spread these lies. Don't listen to them. Study for yourself and find the truth. You may not want to worship in the methods of the RC church, but at least get a true understanding of what it is about.
I am a High Church Episcopalian.

Catholics started persecuting the early Protestant churches in Europe, causing religious wars.
In Ireland the Catholics guided by the pope murdered Protestant settlers and the native converts. This lead eventually to the King William of the house of Orange to invade Ireland and defend the Protestants inhabitants and defeat the Irish Catholics at the Battle of the Boyne.
The main difference between Catholics and Protestants is that Catholics look to Rome as their holy city, while Protestants look to the holy land as inspiration, so that they can build their new Jerusalem.

mainly because you can't spell Christian right.
I don't know about everyone else but I see it as in the Bible it says not to worship false idols and not to put any other gods before me...ect. when catholics p[ray to mary and the saints that's EXACTLY what they're doing. sure the saints may have been great people, but they were still just that, people. God said all sin is equal, and everyone that excepts him is equal, so I don't think they should be treated differently than anyone else, especially not prayed to. I don't know much about saints besides they had to have done like 3 miracles or something, but just because they did doesn't make them holy or amazing, it was still God, God gave them the power to do these things, and God should get the credit, not people.
I also am not one for all the formalities, I prefer a close relaxed atmosphere. I don't see how counting beads while praying will make God forgive you anymore than praying normally, in fact i think it's better to just pray because it comes from you, from your heart and is more sincere. I think we should all go to church barefoot personally, if it is God's house and is holy. in all the holy places int he Bible God tells everyone to take their shoes off, so why don't we?
but that's just my opinion, and I don't hate catholics, I just feel more comfortable doing things the way I interpret them from the Bible, just like everyone else. I'm sure not all catholics agree with everything about catholicism, just like i don't believe everything my church says, you just have to find a place you feel like you fit in the best, if it's catholicism I don't think God minds as long as you accept him into your heart.
also some people feel catholics are hypocrites because they'll sin all week and then just confess. stereo typically catholics have a bad rep. (ie catholic school girls). I'm not one to judge based on typically what groups are like, because each person is different, and while most maybe be like whatever the stereo type says you never know until you get to know the person.

I am a Methodist, and I don't "hate" Catholics per-say, I guess they are just a lot more involved in their religion then my family is.
Plus, I grew up in a mainly Catholic community/school system.
The Catholics looked down on any of us that were any other religion. They would continually tell us that "they were the only real religion, and they were better people because they were Catholic."
I think that as long as you believe in something, whether it's god, or a higher power, who is to tell you you are wrong, or not a good person?

If everything said in all of the above answers were true, I would not be Catholic and I would not like them to much either. However, almost every answer I read on here had error in it. Catholics are encouraged to read the Bible, we do not worship Mary, we do not believe we are the only ones going to Heaven, etc. Before you criticize something, learn the truth about it.
God bless,

Because Catholics were the first to worship the Father Zeus and his son Jesus in Christianity's polytheistic trinitheism and because Catholics had the rest follow them in confusion and paganism from which they all are unable to free themselves and be rational human beings, and if that's not enough reason to dislike them you can get a copy of The Age Of Reason and check out your Bible with it for edification and confirmation.

I don't dislike Catholics, most of my family is Catholic and some friends are- I used to be Catholic.
What I have a problem with is the religion itself- it calls itself a Christian religion but it's teachings are far from the Bible- most of what they teach contradicts the Bible.
When I began to read the Bible for myself, I began to realize how far from true Christianity Catholicism really is.
I don't like the teachings but I still love the people :)

I don't dislike them I feel sorry for them because they are mislead. They are brain-washed from very early childhood that the Catholic church is the only way to Heaven when following the rituals of the Catholic church can very well lead someone directly to hell.
The Catholics bow to statues & present sacrifices of flowers & food to them. They burn candles to them. The Bible says this is idolatry. It says "make no graven image" "bow to no graven image." It's a sin. The Catholics still "confess" to a Priest when the Bible says Jesus Christ Himself died to take that position for us. We can take our petitions directly to Him who is seated at the right hand of the Father. That said, why would I confess for a Priest or say "Hail Mary's" which are mentioned NO WHERE in the Bible as a means to forgive sin and why would I pray to Mary or the Saints when I can go directly to Jesus? Where is the rosary mentioned in the Bible? It's not. Where does the Bible say we must cross ourselves? It doesn't. The Bible is very clear when it says not to add anything or take anything away from the book. The Priests are supposedly endowed with the gift of the Holy Ghost when ordained yet they don't show the signs that are in the Bible as "fruit of the Spirit" such as speaking in tongues, interpreting tongues & giving prophecy. Do you know any Priest who has EVER done any of these things? Not me.
I feel sorry for Catholics who must go through all the pomp & circumstance but never find the simplicity or real meaning of the gift of salvation because they are too caught up with the rituals. I don't hate them at all. I pray for them.

Often, other Christians will say "I don't think that that is right," without bothering to see if it -could- be.
They often reject Tradition out of hand in preference to their own interpretaion of the Bible.
But, I would not say that this is common.
Also, Catholics are very charitable, but give less to thier own churches than do other types of Christians.
Catholics are "born again" with every confession, just like everyone else.

It is not the religion its self . it is what the Popes, Cardinals and down the hierarchy's list have made of it. That it is only interested in milking its followers out of all of their money to get or keep their loved ones from Hell. They have taken the same place as the Rabbi's of old had.Complete control over the masses. The Masses starved while they feed on the riches they forced others to give them.
