B/c even if you liked her and knew you couldn't date, there's a part of you that feels as though you were dating and therefore when you were "rejected" it hurts just like how a real relationship would feel like when people break up. The GOOD thing is that it never was actually a relationship and that means you lost nothing but gain the knowledge of knowing that she wasn't the one meant for you. Find another girl who'll share the same feelings for you so you won't be the only one with one-sided feelings. Best of luck!
