I read a passage in the Koran, Sura 2. I was wondering if it was refering to Jews or to an unbelievers "the greediest of all men".

I'll get the textual support.

I'm not saying Jews are greedy. Just think I may have found something that said they were.

It's not a statement. Maybe I should have worded my question differently.

I don't even know enough jews to be able to make that kind of generalization.

But I read a statement in the Koran and wasn't sure of the context. Just asking a question. Promise!

ARE YOU EVEN READING THE QUESTION OR JUST ANSWERING?

From the Koran: 86 Moses came to you with manifest signs, then ye took up with the calf when he had gone and did so wrong. 87 And when we took a covenant with you and raised the mountain over you, ‘Take what we have given you with resolution and hear;’ they said, ‘We hear but disobey;’ and they were made to drink the calf down into their hearts for their unbelief. Say, ‘An evil thing is it which your belief bids you do, if ye be true believers.’ 88 Say, ‘If the abode of the future with God is yours alone and not mankind’s: long for death then if ye speak the truth.’ 89 But they will never long for it because of what their hands have sent on before; but God is knowing as to the wrong doers. 90 Why, thou wilt find them the greediest of men for life; and of those who associate others with God one would fain live for a thousand years,- but he will not be reprieved from punishment by being let live, for God seeth what they do.

My answer: Seems to me as if it is talking about idol worshipers. I'm Christian, but isn't it referring to when Moses went to get the 10 commandments and the rest of the people (were they Jews?) began to worship false gods.

If they were, in fact, Jewish people who "took up with the calf when he had gone and did so wrong" then, yes, I suppose you could say that it is referring to Jewish people as "the greediest of all men." But, only the ones that were sinning in that particular way. And, I would imagine that the passage extends to all people. As when Paul wrote to the Corinthians; he was talking to the people of Corinth, but Christians everywhere use his letters as guidance.

No more greedy than any other race or creed.
One must remember that the so call Zionist conspiracy was invented by one of the Czars men, when they faced the Bolshevik revolutionaries, which some of the leaders were Jewish such as Trotsky, and the founder of Marxism being Jewish ( Karl Marx).
Later on this Conspiracy floated around Europe in a faked letter, before getting the attention of a madman called Adolf Hitler.
Jewish people can be clever adaptable which normally makes them successful, causing jealousy amongst less hard working populations.
As for Islam, it has always despised the Jews as well as Christians for that's how Muslims further their cause of world domination.
As a troubling fact, did you know that Muslims in the Balkans joined the German SS regiment in the second world war.

I am not sure if that is the opinion being conveyed in that piece of religious literature, but personally, i know for certain jews are just as greedy as anyone else. they can't be judged as a whole, just like you can't be judged based upon your religion at whole. people are individual and so are their personalities and values. my boyfriend is jewish and often he gets the stereotype that jews are rich and stingy. it just so happens he does come from a weatlthy family because his dad is a dentist. historically, however, jews always had to prove themselves to others in order to be accepted in society and to make money. this is why it's traditional for many jews to become doctors, lawyers, dentists, etc., which gives them this stereotype. once again, though, you cannot judge someone by a stereotype! we learn this in preschool. it's a shame by the time we get to be adults, we forget this very simple lesson! especially do not listen to any literature, especially religious material. just think: if a religion is trying to gain believers, of course there will be propaganda to make it seem like this that religion is "the answer" or the "right" religion! don't waste your time even worrying about this. bring yourself back down to earth, and maybe make some friends with some jews and you'll see they're just like anybody else.

Ohhh goody, another sweeping generalisation. Obviously since you have to ask this question, you don't know any Jews personally, do you? They're PEOPLE. There may be some greedy ones, but others are generous and kind, just like any other ethnic/racial/national group on the planet. Grow up.

Everyone is greedy in their own way. We are all human, We all make mistakes, we all have our ups and downs, talents and flaws, rights and wrongs. If someone is more greedy, or more talented in a subject, or more intelligent, doesn't change who they are or their personality. We are all equal human beings, be it Christian, Jew, Muslim, Wiccan, Buddhist, Hindu, whatever else, and don't let anything else tell you that.

I'm sorry, i was not talking about the koran, but still.

I live in a community that is about thirty percent Jewish. They work hard, get a good education and save their money. Some people are not interested in doing well for their families. Not all Jews are middle-class to well-off. None of them seem incredibly wealthy to me, at least not the majority. Immigrants and ethnic minorities often bend over backwards to achieve because they feel like outsiders and want to impress everyone. Some cultures value work ethic. The Japanese do. So do the Chinese.

I think older cultures value work and family more.

Sadly, the greediest people live in the wealthiest countries.

They become powerful through wealth, not because of their leadership abilities, and we all suffer for their greed. The majority of them are not Jews.

Jews are just as greedy and as giving as Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Ba'hai and members of all other faiths and nonfaiths. Why? because they're human, and humanity is greedy, giving, murderous, altruistic, devout, hyporcritical and every other possible way of being. Judge not that ye be not judged.
Blessings.

Are all who read the Bible or Koran stupid? What kind of question is that? You cannot stereotype any group of people. If we could start seeing each other individually, as the image and creation of God, then maybe we would have a chance at peace.
