To be honest, just read it. I would recommend a good study bible to do so, though. I have one. It gives some really helpful cross references so you can see how one verse is linked with another..and they tend to have commentaries linked to most verses which will explain it more deeply. (Although as with any bible study, always be careful about believing anything someone else says, without totally understanding it as your 'own' truth within the bible too. You can never fully trust what another person believes. ;) )

Also, I'd recommend a good bible course or two. My first one was at www.amazingfacts.org . They have a free online one. ^_^

No matter what I learn from courses or side notes or other people's thoughts..I always try to find it on my own in the bible first. I'm reading it for the first time now, and really enjoying it. Just ask God to help you understand the truths within it. If, after you have read something within it and thought about it, and you still can't understand it..then ask someon else's thoughts and see how that goes. It's what I do. It's a slow process, but it's working. ^_^

Hope that helped.

MANY persons keenly wish to understand God’s Word. They want to know the will of the Creator. Yet, at the same time, they find the Bible difficult to understand. This has distressed many lovers of righteousness, and they rightly wonder why God’s Word should be a Book so little understood. To understand why the Bible is so little understood is to take a major step toward understanding God’s Word itself.

even the masses of professing Christians have been misled and blinded by the Bible’s chief enemy, Satan the Devil.—Isa. 60:2, AS; 2 Cor. 4:3, 4; 1 John 5:19, NW.

Having cleared out the obstacles to understanding, the person who would understand God’s Word must then seek the basis for understanding.

First, one must love righteousness and be searching for the truth. Such persons are, as the Bible says, “rightly disposed for everlasting life.”—Acts 13:48, NW

Third, to lay a foundation for understanding that is sound, one must be willing to compare any religious instruction he receives with the Scriptures. Can it be proved by the Bible? If not, then reject it. God’s command is: “Make sure of all things.” The Bible commends those who do this, such as the Beroeans of whom the scripture says: “Now the latter were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with the greatest readiness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so.”

If you would like to know what the bible really teaches I would recommend that you contact your local kingdom hall of jehovahs witnesses who will gladly offer you a free home bible study. This is not to push their religious views down your throat but to delve into the scriptures, I personally have had a study with them and I was amazed at what i learnt in just 2 weeks!! You will be too and the scriptures will be opened to you.

I know there will be a thousand different answers with no real way of deciding which is the correct one. So, all I can offer is my opinion on how I studied the bible.

After many different books and peoples opinions I decided to seek God's opinion. It was in prayer that I asked if He could teach me since I couldn't find anyone else to. Then God lead me to the book of Proverbs.

This book was mostly written by King Solomon. And God showed me how when Solomon was first anointed king that he prayed to God for knowledge and wisdom (1 King 3:9, 2 Chr 1:10). It was then that I put two and two together. Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge in order to be a good king over God's people, then later he wrote thousands of proverbs, many of which ended up in the book of Proverbs. Then I learned - the book of Proverbs is a way to understand the mind of God.

Isaiah says that God's thoughts and ways are far above the thoughts and ways of men (Isa 55:8-9). But since God doesn't change, it is therefore our responsibility to change. We need to change Our thoughts and ways to God's thoughts and ways.

The first part is to change our thoughts. This is done through the study of the book of Proverbs. Understanding will take time. For some short, others long. For me it took almost four months of study before I started to understand what Proverbs was teaching.

Then after one's perceptions are changed by Proverbs, we need to take the second step and learn God's ways. We find His ways in the books of Torah (Genesis thru Deuteronomy).

Through this course of study is how God helped me learn and understand the scriptures. I hope it helps you too.

1) be sincere and humble
2) pray for understanding
3) study the bible but never pull a scripture out of context . Understand who is talking, what did they believe? Who are being spoken to?, what are the circumstances?, etc.
4) whatever conclusion you draw....make absolutly certain it is in complete harmony with the scriptures in entirety. If someone comes along with a scriptural thought that seems to contradict your conclusion, then something needs to be rethought until there is harmony.

In this way te Bible is in effect teaching....talking....it leaves no room for interpetation.
