last night our dog bit my partner's hand and i went to him to see what is going onand suddenly he bit me as well. it was like 1 cm deep . it started bleeding like hell and we had to call ambulance. I am now feeling like my hand is out of order . It hurts alot and i am really scared of him as of now on.
Since we have kids around and we think if he does it to them what would happen then.
We decided to give him away immidiately

I had a dog that bit my partner really bad one night required stitches. And I also had children, but i decided to have him put down instead of giving him away. I saw what he was capable of and didn't want it to happen to me or family again, and i wouldn't feel good about myself giving him to someone else either. What if he did it to another child or something? Guilt would have over come me..So a responsibe owner in my oppinion would have it put to sleep instead of giving it away to someone else.

I agree with the decision to take him out of the home if you have children. Good for you on that, some folks keep biting dogs despite the danger. You should have tried a vet first. Some forms of disease change personalities, some are treatable, others aren't, but it's best to know for sure.
Some breeds are susceptible to a form of epilepsy that makes a dog freak out, attack it's family one minute, and the next they are back to it's loving, playful self. These dog's can't be in families with children for obvious reasons.
I just wanted you to know it could have been a medical issue. I hope you told who ever you gave the dog to what happened. It's not fair to give them a potentially dangerous dog with no warning.
As to the injuries, go back to the doctor. If something seems off, ask lots of questions. You are risking the function of your hand. Animal bites get infected quickly, which is very bad news. It's best to be safe than sorry.
Good luck to you, sorry about your doggie.

What's the question here?
Please be aware that you may have a liability situation for giving away a dog that is a known biter, and if you're giving the dog to a shelter, chances are high that the dog will be euthanized as a matter of course. I think it's a real shame that you'd dump your dog after a single incident without even consulting a vet or behaviorist to understand what may have caused the bite. 1 cm deep is not a tragic or serious dog bite in the grand scheme of things.
Please don't get another dog.

I think you made the right but hard decision. Your children should always come first. It does not matter why the dog has bitten it simply has. If a dog gets the taste for blood it will likely bite again.
I do think however that you should have given the dog to your local animal shelter/charity for them to do a tempremant check.
But again you did the right thing.

Is this dog old? Dogs act very strangly when they are sick or are about to die. They can get very moody and more than likely bite. I'd take him/her to the vet ASAP. I've seen this in many cases and the dogs died weeks after. It has even happened to me with dogs I've known being sweet all their lives and then they snap one day and I was the only one he/she bit.

There's something you're not telling. What was going on right before this happened? Dogs don't just bite their owners out of the blue. Something provoked him.

You gave him away? I'm sorry because I love animals, but human safety has to come first. That dog should be humanely destroyed. A dog that viciously bites adults may attack a child.
