The first two answers prove that there is not a pat answer to this question. It would depend on whether or not you find the scent pleasant and tolerable. If you have allergies aggravated by scent, then they would NOT relieve stress.
There is a lot of hoopla about aromatherapy in various spa and bath products, and of course candles. Some of the fragrances are synthetic and if you benefit from them it is purely psychological...not that this is a bad thing. But essential oils are for real and many of them trigger physiological systems, doing different things: stress relief, energizing, reducing headaches, clearing the sinuses, mental clarity, etc. If these products have essential oils then they have the potential to give real benefits.

Yes they can. Any of the five senses if used properly can relieve stress. visual, sounds, somatic as in massages, aromas, tastes. exercising. All can soothe or irritate. Shutting off incoming stimuli of all types may be even better. Close your eyes, muffle sounds, a warm room, smooth soft fabrics against the skin, a trance state if you can do it yourself or through a hypnotist can become the absolute best longer lasting process stress reliever for the alone person. A loving cuddling hugging by another is a great stress reliever!!

Aromatherapy candles are made for that purpose. They use different scents to trigger responses in the brain.
