The smarter person--
1. Understands the limits of their own knowledge and understanding.
2. Seeks out new resources to add to their knowledge.
3. Rejects those ideas that encourage delusion rather than reason.
4. Makes a distinction between the use of science where it applies, and the use of faith where data is lacking.
5. Dumps what doesn't work .
6. Realizes that both logic and faith have their uses.

There are intelligent people in both camps. I tend to think that intelligent believers are more drawn to mainline Churches rather than the fundamentalist ones, because the fundamentalist tend to be more rigid. Also what science of one age sees as a new development soon becomes the errors of the past in the next age. So science is not a god either.

I don't think either side is generally smarter than the other. Ones spiritual orientation or lack thereof doesn't necessarily have anything to with other aspects of their life and mind. But when spirituality is the focus, I do find non-believer to generally be more rational and coherent than believers. On the other hand, believers greatly outnumber non-believers, so I guess in the end its a tie.

The ones who believe they'll get rich off the others who want to; Wanna-be believers who can afford to take a gamble at anything that might save their butts someday. God might not take credit or debit cards but churches will. What would the world be like without any knowledge of religion? Would it be better or much worse?

Smarter? Hard to say. But let's compare one example...
Let's say you accept Jesus into your life and live by the 10 commandments. Let's say you're doing all this because you believe in God and all that other bible stuff.
If you're right, you go to heaven and you after life is a happy one. If you're wrong, then you're no worse off than where you started.
Now, let's go the other way. Let's say that you decided to be a hell raiser because you believe there is no God or after life.
If you're right, then at worst people will curse your name at your funeral.
If you're wrong, you will be doing some cursing of your own.
Best wishes.

Considering the Big Bang Theory came from a Jesuit Catholic Priest and the Father of Genetics was a Catholic Abbott and Albert Einstein believed in God and used God as a reason for why the Heinsenberg and Plank theories couldn't be concieveable, I'd tend to say believers.
If it wasn't for them the non-believers wouldn't be able to beat their drums very loud!

It is not about being smart. I bet any "science " you would use to debunk anything you felt like debunking would have some name followed by the word "theory". And we all know that theory is not Law!! no matter how close you think science is to the truth, if you have to use the word theory behind it you do not know the full truth.Sounds like YOU put all your FAITH in science!!!!!! Think about that. Not even close to rocket surgery!!!

Human intelligence is not measured by believing or not believing. There are plenty of intelligent people among believers and non believers. There are plenty of fools among believers and non believers. They use IQ to measure human intelligence even though it is not quite correct. The IQ practically shows the speed of thinking more than intelligence.

Hmmm!! The ever changing scientific theories that make another obsolete within hours at times. If one considered every scientific theory that has came down the road since Galileo we would all be in trouble. Scientific theory is accomplished by trial and error and most of the time simply error. Now who should I believe?
