You are right there, but it's bigger than that. Men have always prescribed what women should look like, what they find attractive. It permeates our whole lives. The magazines, TV, movies, clothing lines, advertising for every G-D thing under the sun, and it goes on and on. If only women would unite and say 'no more'. But there are always women who will conform to male standards because they can't bear to live without a man. Did you see the news headline yesterday about more countries siding with Italy in banning underweight models from the runway? Yeah!!! Maybe society will be able to take this momentum and push away from the current standard which has many girls killing themselves.

We can't blame magazines alone. I actually think it has to do with the family, especially the mother (for true anorexics and bulemics, anyway). It hurts to hear time and time again, "You would be so pretty if you lost some weight." Trust me.
However, you also have to have a mental pre-disposition to be swayed into an eating disorder.

It's not that stuff but a persons self image of themselves. They want to be like everyone else instead of being just who they are. Some of us are bigger or smaller. It's genetics. Yes the world thinks that everyone has to be thin and beautiful to be successful but that is far from being the truth. We shouldn't give in to societies bs and what hollywood, the movies or magazines think what we should look like.

it has some to do with the media but most people with eating disorders, usually young teens have no control over their lives. overbearing or over protective parents and all come down to a control issue and one thing they have control over is their body
