Hi kj7gs. We don't choose Jesus, He chooses us. We can do nothing for our salvation, it is a gift from God. We cannot come to God it is him who draws us. We read in John 6:44:

"No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day."

We are choosing, to let the sacrifice of Jesus, save us. Even if we were willing to die for our own sins, or anothers, it wouldn't count. We are unable to save that way, but we CAN choose to have our name written in the lamb's book of life. The second part of your question/comment.....Let me set the record straight...the part where you say nothing happens, is false. It just hasn't happened yet. Now is an interesting time in the lives of everyone living. We are not dead yet, and so have time and ability to make some VERY big decisions about life, death, God, or not, etc. I promise you though, by rejecting Jesus, somethingi does happen. Just as if you do accept, something great happens. God wants you to know this, and thats why people like me are sharing it with you. I wish you the best, and make good decisions! :)

Peter said: "Save yourselves from this perverse generation!" (Acts 2:40) However we must qualify this with the statement of Jesus: "No one can come to Me , unless the Father who sent me draws him." (John 6:44)

So there is a sense in which one saves himself, by responding to the invitation of God, but no could be saved or even be inclined to be saved without the preceding grace of God, the drawing work of the Holy Spirit.

Unless the Holy Spirit draws a person to Christ he can't be saved. It's all of grace not works. There is an old book of C. H. Spurgeon called "All of Grace" everyone on this site should read ,it would be a great help.

JESUS does all the saving. We just accept the Gift He offers.

No more so than going through an open door is welcoming ourselves.
Everything has already happened. It is merely a question of whether or not we allow it to happen to us...we accept the welcome.
