You may have simply "sprained" the periodontal ligament. It's the little group of fibers that hold your tooth in the bone and act as a shock absorber when you bite into hard things, like Tic Tacs. It will probably feel fine in 3-4 days. If it gets worse instead of better, though, you better see your dentist right away.
Take some Advil for tonight and keep your head elevated on an extra pillow and re-evaluate the situation in the morning. The worst case, as eva suggested, is that you may have broken your tooth.

Possible diagnosis include:
1. Acute periodontitis (inflammation of the dental ligament as Dr. Sam has described)
2. Crack tooth or broken dental restoration
3. Acute exacerbation of a chronic apical periodontitis (acute inflamation of a necrosed dental pulp)
#1 will quickly resolved (within 24-48 hours) and will be help with:
. cold application
. Advil, Motrin, or Aspirin.
. avoid eating on that side for a day
# 2 and # 3 will not go away and typically are worsen with:
. cold application
. time
If the pain is not relieved after 2 days, see your dentist.
Best wishes

An abscess is a general term for the sore the body makes to prevent germs and etc from spreading. It can be very serious, especially around a tooth where it would have trouble healing. People can die from an infection like that and you have a much better chance of saving the tooth if you get it treated quickly.

Go to a dentist.
Pain is an indications of a problem. That is why it is present.
People can die from a bad tooth. Chances are the bite on the food didn't cause the problem. You probably had a problem started and the food exacerbated it.
It won't get better on it's own.

Sounds like you cracked it and the nerve might be getting air to it. OUCH.
I would see a dentist right away. You don't want it to turn into a root canal!! Expensive and a DRAG to sit through.
You should have come to OUR company Christmas party! We had ours last night. No stuffy fancy dinner sitting making chit chat. We rented the back room of the new bowling alley and had pizza and beer and prizes and pool. It was great! Very casual.
No painful teeth the next day. :-)

Ok this works. Until you can go to the dentist get listerine the regular kind, and rinse your mouth with it more on the side where the tooth hurts. Now listen it will sting but trust me bare with the pain and i tell you the pain will go away. Infection you might have and listerine will help kill it. Infection is pain. But please go to the dentist as soon as you can.

Some times you can break a tooth loose in the socket by bitting on something hard, It may tighten up on its own but you might have damaged the nerve it would be a good idea to see a DDR . remember you only get one set of teeth as an adult you better take care of them.

BY FAR THE MOST PROBABLE ANSWER IS PROVIDED BY DR. SAM. I WOULD ONLY ADD THAT IF THAT SAME TOOTH HAD A SILVER FILLING, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A BREAK THAT TOOK PLACE. IF THIS PAIN LINGERS FOR 3 DAYS OR MORE SEE YOUR DENTIST.
