Start with a ripe avocado and cut it lengthwise around the seed. (NOTE: Thoroughly wash the fruit before you peel it.)

Rotate the halves to separate.

Remove the seed by sliding the tip of a spoon gently underneath it and lifting it out. The other common seed-extraction method -- striking the seed with a knife -- is dangerous and not recommended.

Peel the fruit by placing the cut side down and removing the skin with a knife or your fingers, starting at the small end. Or simply scoop out the avocado meat with a spoon. Be sure to sprinkle all cut surfaces with lemon or lime juice or white vinegar to prevent discoloration.

TIP: To ripen avocados, place them in a plain brown paper bag and store at room temperature. It will take about two to five days until they're ready to eat. To hasten ripening, place an apple in the paper bag with them.

To store

It is more of a scoop...
Cut the avocado lengthwise all the way around & holding halves gently, twist.
Lay the half without the pit aside. Now, depending on how good you are with a knife, take a chef's knife & hit the pit with the sharp side of the blade, so that the blade goes into the pit slightly, then twist removing the pit. If you are not handly with a knife, use a spoon to gently scoop out the pit.
To remove from the skin, hold half of the avocado in one hand & carefully run a spoon between the meat & the skin carefully working it around the entire half until the meat is loose from the skin. Bump it out & repeat with the second half....

First of all you must be sure the avocado is ripe. A too fresh avocado will not peel well. The avocado must have a slight soft feel to it. Next, with a sharp knife cut through the fruit along its long axis to the stone and cut all the way around. Give the fruit a twist and the two haves should separate. Now, if the fruit is ripe you should be able to gently a) remove the skin, or 2) scoop out the meat.

You cut the avocado lengthwise down one side and continue up the other to half it.
Hold the avocado and twist about a quarter turn.
One half will have the pit.
The pit can be removed by taking a very sharp knife and slicing the blade into the pit.
With the blade slightly buried into the pit, give the knife a slight twist and the pit will wiggle out.
You now have two avocado halves that you can slice or spoon out.

take a knife and cut around from top to bottom and back up to the top, twist and pull, carefully hit the blade of your knife(not the tip, the blade) into the pit, carefull not to cut your hand, then twist the knife to loosen the pit and lift knife(this should pull the pit out, if the pit won't twist then your avocado is not ripe!). Hit the pit that is stuck to your knife off into the garbage. Take a spoon and run it between the skin of the avocado and the "meat"AKA"insides"this will pop what you want out without waste! Enjoy!

mmm.you don't peel an avocado. You just cut it in half, and carefully slice the inside and scoop everything out with a spoon. I never peeled an avocado before.

I cut the avocado in half with a knife and then take the pit out by sticking the knife into it.

Then I squeeze out the inside so I do not have to mess another spoon. If it is ripe then it should come out nicely.

If the avocado is ripe, you can cut the avocado in half lengthwise, cutting against the pit. Then hold each half and turn to remove the pit from one side. And you'll be surprised how easy it is to remove each skin by slipping your fingers under the skin. You'll have "skin bowls". lol.

The skin is tough, but thin. Avocodoes are expensive, so peel carefully as to not waste any of it. The pit is huge, you can't miss it.

I have never eaten an avocado--how weird is that?

cut it in half long ways, then hit the seed with a sharp knife, then scoop out the avocado with a spoon
