My brother in law said that to me 37 years ago, when I got married. Never had any trouble from him, though he is something of a jerk. I agree with the others: some brothers feel like that is what they're supposed to say. It does tend to put a damper on what could be a good friendship, though.

Norma

I shouldn't worry about it or do nothing, I'm sure it's just a case of brotherly love and his way of protecting her.

My step daughters not long met a new fellow they're getting married and having a baby, my mother in law is one of the sweetest women i know but one to speak her mind and she recently told my soon to be son in law that if he hurt he'll have my mother in law after him.

Does your son in law have siblings? if not then it might be a case that he doesn't understand the full force of a brother's love or his sister, if he mentions it again tell him not to worry about it, it's probably only words.

Now unless your son is prone to violent outburst you should be no more concerned about his comment as i am about my 81 year old mother in law.

I wouldnt do anything as I think that is a standard sort of thing that a brother would say. I intend to say much the same to anyone who wants to marry one of my children and will most likely have my husband martial arts weapons in my hand when I say it so they know I am not mucking about.

If he is not a jerk no problems. If he is at least he was warned. If the brother meant it the guy probably knows and should expect an issue if he messes around.

I already like your son, he defends his sister. If my son-in-law hurt my daughter, my too sons would be trying to beat me to him. My daughter is Gods property and no one has permission to hurt her. God bless your son!!!!!

Do nothing. I have five brothers and when they say that they usually mean it, you shouldnt punish the brother for loving nd caring about his sisters well being.

tell your son who said it to get a life, unles he really feels like your new son in law has the chance to hurt her, then you should be like why did i let her marry him?

I would do nothing because he is just protecting her even though she is a adult or maybe she should let him know she was uncomfortable with him saying that but she appreciates the looking out

My brother said the same thing to my ex. Obviously they think they're supposed to say it.
