My wife is becoming a Canadian Citizen close to Christmas. My folks thought it would be good for her to have a True 1867 (The year of confederation) Christmas dinner. The problem is we do not know just what that includes. Thanks for your help

My grandmother told me when she was young they always served goose for christmas dinner. She lived in canada during the latter part of the 1800's so this would likely apply. Tourtiere would also apply since this is a traditional french canadian dish that is always served at yuletide. Plum pudding is another older dish that was poplular in this time.

It would depend on whether you lived in a town or city or were settler/farmers. I'm just guessing in town turkeys and goose were sold. I'm sure depending on the wealth of the family they would have the full meal deal with plum pudding or pies. A lot of settlers stored their vegetables and meat in a underground cave dug out of a hill to preserve it through the winter.
