Butter Cookies
1 cp. UNSALTED BUTTER (room temperature)
1 cp. POWDERED SUGAR
1 Lg. EGG
1 1/2 tsp. VANILLA
2 1/2 cps. FLOUR
1/2 tsp. SALT
Combine butter, sugar, egg & vanilla in a large bowl with mixer on medium speed, beat until smooth
stir together flour & salt in a small bowl
Add to butter mixture & beat on low speed until combined
To shape cookies:
for cookie press, spoon dough into press & form desired shapes on ungreased cookie sheet
For slice & bake cookies, divide dough in half & shape each half into a 6" long log on wax paper. Wrap & chill in the refrigerator 1 hour or in the freezer 30 minutes
Slice cookies 1/8" thick place on ungreased cookie sheet
Bake at 400 for 7 - 9 minutes depending on the shape or until set & lightly browned around the edges (TOPS SHOULD NOT BE BROWN)
Allow to stand on cookie sheet for 1 minute
Transfer with metal spatula to wire rack & cool

Yes, butter cookies have butter in them. Most others ahev butter also or some type of margarine or maybe even shortening. I mean if not they wouldnt call it butter cookies I think.
