She loves you, and wants to play with you. Biting at you is her way of saying "Hey mom! Put me down so we can wrestle!"
Try playing with her and getting her tired out before snuggling, little kittens can be reallllllllly hyper and the more play she gets, the more she will want to cuddle with you :-)

My mom's older cat that is now not with us anymore used to do the same thing throughout his whole life. He would climb up on my mom when he was laying down get the motor boat purring going and start licking her face but in the meantime he was biting at the same time we didnt understand it so we called the vet up and asked him, what he said was that it was a show of affection. He was trying to be loving and some cat's just do it in a strange way. Your kitten could be showing you she loves you. I read that in a book at the library once too. You could try calling your vet and asking the same thing, they will probably tell you what I am telling you.

She is playing with you and unfortunately with your hand!
The fact that she is purring shows she is contented and being
a kitten she gets overly excited easily. When a kitten does this to
its mother i.e in the wild the mother cat will 'check' it's baby
by giving it a tiny nip. Kittens don't understand that they are actually hurting you during play so give it a small tap when it
gets too excited and hurts you, she will soon begin to understand
that it is not acceptable, how about giving her a toy whilst on your lap to distract her when she bites. good luck

How old is said kitten? She could be losing her milk teeth, therefore an impulse to bite...and the purr is saying she's not angry, just chewing...or she could be coming into sexual maturity. Some females bite when excited.

She may be trying to play with you. Is there another cat in the house? If not she's most likely showing you affection. I know that sounds odd, but I don't think cats see us as "human" but just another bigger cat. So when she bites you can hiss at her and put her down, and then walk away from her. Unfortunately cats do not learn learn like dogs in which you can punish them openly for their bad behavior. Remember, only praise her, or give her attention for good behavior.

It means that she's very excited and wants to play more. My cat always bites my hand and scratches them. And they'll run all over the house because they want me to chase them. Don't worry if she bites and purrs at you. She just wants to play with you. ^_^

if she was upset with you when she bit you you would know. if she is biting but not really trying to hurt you it is probably affection, though can be teething. get some books on kittens and cats and read up on it. ask your vet. understanding that animals don't react how humans do helps in living with them. they are great company, great fun and very loving.

She's a toddler, doesn't know it's bad... Until mummy teaches her. She obviously looooooves you for letting her do something so enjoyable, hence the purring. Choose a chewing toy for her and slip it in her mouth everytime she starts on your hand and she'll soon get the message that you 'prefer' her to chew on the toy.
Mixed messages? Well, she is female... We all do that, don't we? ;-)

It means that she loves you, I call them love bites, and trust me I have had many, many cats. Just remember not to pet your kitten too much because they get too excited! That is a kitty's way of kissing you! don't worry!

if she's a kitten she may just be teething or something i guess but my adult cat will kind of bite me on the hand or something but it's an affectionate kind of thing she doesn't hurt me or anything she just wants attention
While they would never admit it our cats really do love us.
