The Bible is meant for meditation, not just reading and browsing through. I've studied just a few words at times. Other times, an entire chapter is what spoke to me. A life application Bible would be good for you. You can read the scripture and then meditate on what it means to you and your walk with God. There are no set rules on how long or how much you should read. I strongly disagree with people who say that it is not necessary to read the Bible as a Christian. It is our love letter from God and an integral part of developing your relationship with God. How else will you know His thoughts except that you read the written Word?

Well, it depends on the area of the Bible, how into that portion of it I am, the amount of time I have, and the language used. I think it's great to read the Bible at least once everday.
Your best bet though, is not to see how long you can read, but how much. Just read, study, ponder, pray, so forth. If you do that, then you'll get more out of it than if you read just read to a time limit. I try to read a chapter a day, but sometimes it's more and sometimes it's less when I find something of interest that I decide I want to research. Whatever you do, just do your best to get something out of it.
If you're looking for a minimum time limit if you're trying to get into the habit of reading everday, I started with 15 minutes. That seems like a good chunk of time to get a lot done, and to understand. From there, you can go longer or shorter, depending on what you feel is good for you.
Hope that helps.

I am certain the amount that is good for one might be different from another, but as a rule of thumb one should read a specific book or letter straight through 40 times b4 sitting down to study it in detail. Repetition brings out so many things that it just should not be ignored. A larger book like say John bears reading or listening to 100 times. Try using tapes for some of those reading (listenings) in the car or somewhere in line etc.

I have read the book of Acts through most often and think it is a good prerequiset to reading the letters because many of them are set into the book of Acts and understranding those journeys unlocks the letters to a fuller extent.

Different amounts at different times. When I was younger ever night I would read 10 chapters.I did not always study 10 chapters. But my study time and my Bible reading time where different.I took my Bible to work and studied on my lunch break.
The Holy Ghost is a great teacher. He will open the word up to you.
My sister and her family learn 1 verse a day. They can quote a lot of the Bible by heart.I am not that good. But the Holy Ghost brings all things to my remembrance as I need it.

Just enough so that you could remember what you read and you would be able to have a personal discusion about it!!
You dont need a certain amount of time for it.
It's the time that you are spending with God. You dont need a clock to tell you that your time with God is up. Take as long as you need, even if it's only 5 to 10 minutes of your day. Just make sure you have time for God atleast once a day. Just so you know, I can read up to 3 chapters in one sitting and understand what is being said.

If you read about 4 chapters a day, you will read the Bible through in a year. It is best to mix the books - 1 psalm or Gospel chapter and 3 OT etc.
Because my mother challenged me to read the Bible through years ago, I read mine through 2 times a year. It takes 7 chapters a day. It takes much longer to read a chapter in Lev. than Eph. I've done this for years and I learn something new everytime.

It depends on what I'm doing. I have not read the Bible recently so I am looking at it closely, stopping to think about what it says when I don't get it, so I usually get through about one chapter per night, sometimes more. It is not really a reading contest, because if reading comprehension was ever important, it certainly is here.

Depending on where I am in the Bible I can read whole books like Ester, Ruth, Job, and Philemon (Just examples) But, when it comes to Psalms, Proverbs, and many books like Matthew, Mark Luke, and John, Acts, Romans and James. I go slower and try to meditate on what is being said and how it applies to my life and how I may share it with others.

Some one said as your appetite dictates and I think that is simple but wise. Pick it up and whet your appetite and stop when you are full (or get a stomach ache and need to work it out)

You can be a Christian and NOT read or believe the Bible. I've read it- it took about a year for me to get through it all- then I realized that while I believe in God, I don't think the Bible is much more than a really old book written by a group of people way back in the day designed only to scare people into obeying THEIR rules. 1 page of the Bible is too much to be reading at one time. If you are really in tune with your spirituality, God will speak directly to you as to what he wants you to do with your life- You dont have to read it.
