Many fish actually bite better in the rain. When more fresh water is coming into one stream or lake from a creek or runoff, that means fresh food.

I'm from Ashland, Ne and I mainly fish for catfish and bass. I have found that right before a storm or rain and during the rain is the best fishing to be had because after the rain the water is stirred up in creeks, rivers, and lakes which creates sediment or dirt to cloud the water and makes it difficult for the fish to move around in. So the fish instinctively sense this and get while the gettin's good.

Yes, it can be one of the most productive times to fish. The fish have learned that food gets washed into the water by the rain and the rain actually helps oxygenate the water thus increasing the activity levels of the fish. One note safety first, DO NOT FISH IN THE LIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will depend on the barometric pressure. Is this rain due to a low or a high coming through? Keep an eye on the fronts that are coming through. Fish will generally actively feed in front of a cold front coming through.

I have had great success fishing for walleye during a rainstorm. Thunder will cause the fish to stop feeding.
