You'll have to ask the woman first.
To help you convince her that your intend to name
your son "Thor" is a just and noble jesture, you'll
need to explain to her why that is.
You can start by telling her that in Viking mythology,
Thor was the son of Odin, the Viking all powerfull
God. Thor was the God of thunder and lightning.
He possesed a hammer that he used to summon
the power of nature in the form of thunder and
lightning and anything in between, i.e, rain and
snow, to fight evil and do good deeds.
Thor had the mental and emotional capacity to be
fair and just. A true super hero in his day for the
oppressed and defenseless.
No need to argue the point.
You have justice and virtue on your side.
Hope this works out for you.

No. Thor is a powerful Norse name. He may develop a fetish for a winged hat and a hammer, but with those muscles, I think most girls will be able to turn a blind eye to his eccentricities ;-)
On a serious note, I have know someone called Thor. He was Norwegian. There was absolutely nothing wrong with him. Since he was fairly aptly named, nobody dared tease him.

I honestly know a kid named Thor!! But then I look at his Mom and think when he was conceived she had a lisp and was saying to his Dad "that was a long hot night and I'm mighty thor". But really the kids name is Thor. Wouldn't be my choice---just make sure it goes with your last name!

Why do you HAVE to name him Thor? Yes, it will probably cause a problem with the mother. I can't understand why you have to name a son anything but a name you and the mother agree on.

You can name him Thor, if you want to. But you don't have to.
YOu don't have to name a child any name other than the one you want to. But do be sure, to give any children you have not only a proper name, but also a middle name.
Yes, that choice of name, might be a problem with the wife. But the husband is supposed to be the boss.

It might cause a problem. My husband wanted to name our son Conan. We ended up compromising with Connor (from the highlander movies.) Thor's not as bad as Conan though, I might've gone for that.
Anyways, good luck.

Thor is a truly fine name for a mere mortal. Nobody will forget his name after meeting him.

Depends on the woman....but it will probably certainly cause problems with the kid, who will probably be teased mercilessly about his name. I'd think twice if I were you.
