Totally out of hand. These pathetic ******* cheated, snorted, and f*cked their way through high school, never went to college, find out they can't get a good job and expect everyone else to fund their lifestyle.
Casino dealers, taxi drivers, etc get nothing. They're doing their f'ing job for God's sake, there's no reason to tip. I don't get a tip for doing my job. Waitresses are a little different, since you're paying more for the food than the service. Simple rule. Excellent service = 15%, not including tax. Adequate = 10%. Minimal = 5%, unpleasant = 0. Only in the most extraordinary case do you ever go to 20%. And those Starbucks bimbos can go fart sand.
There are people who earn money, and people who try to guilt you into thinking you are supposed to give it away. Screw them. They can always get an education and a real job if waitressing or dealing is too tough.

Tipping 15% in a sit-down restaurant is fair. If the restaurant automatically adds the tip, I will pay that much and tip not one penny more. As for a tip jar where you pick up the food, like Starbucks or take-out places, forget it. They get paid better than the minimum unless they bring food to the table.
Casinos: when you lose, do you seriously think the help would give you a quarter busfare home if you lost it all? Why the hell should you share your winnings with the help at a casino? The odds are against you, anyway.
Gambling in a casino is like picking a fight with Mike Tyson and expecting to win. Casinos are professionals, you have no real chance of coming out ahead. I bet $20 tops, when it's gone, I get the hell out. When I double my money or better, I get the hell out. And so should you.
You want to have fun gambling, gamble with friends, and don;t gamble much. That way your chances are a LOT better than any any thieving casino.
Al the money stays in the group. No taxes, no profits, no vigorish, no mob.
And don't tip unless you are really a dummy. Who gives a damn if they give you a dirty look?

I firmly belive that the only people who you should tip are waitstaff, hairdressers, and tattoo/pericing artists. And that is only for good service.
I tip 15 percent for good service, and 20 percent for exceptional service. Rude service gets a complaint to the superviser, mediocre service gets no tip.
Next time you are starbucks, consider informing the manager that the employees are collecting tips. Most companies such as starbucks and mcdonalds actually ask their employees not to accept them, so asking for them is definatly a huge no no.
And I agree, the whole tipping thing is getting out of hand. At this rate, we'll end up spending more money on tips than anything else!

I agree, I pretty much stopped tipping years ago.
It's the employers responsibility to pay your wage not me, if you give me better than average service, then I am more apt to tip you something.
If you don't like that people don't tip, then get a job where your employer pays your wage.
Expecting and in some cases demanding a tip is arrogant, you obviously need to be in a different line of work.
If anyone in a restaurant deserves a tip it's the cook and or the dishwashers, they are the reason that I am going out to eat, not the server, and I've tipped cooks and not servers before.

I agree...everyone gets paid an hourly wage for the job they do, in canada at least, everybody is entitled to minimum wage. Tips are for extra ordinary service. For those who say that people live off there tips....well it was their choice to work as a waitress or in the service industry. If people aren't getting paid an hourly wage then they should find a new job or go back to school so they can find a job with more financial security. And no my parents didn't pay for anything!!

agreed. tipping should not be such a requirement (that it has become). the purpose of tipping is to add a little somethin xtra if you are really pleased with the service-- not something you must do despite how good or bad the service is. I HATE THE IDEA OF TIPPING AT COFFEE SHOPS< ETC>!!!!! All they do is their job!! By fixing my drink they are not doing me some special service or random act of kindness!! That is what they are payed to do!! Why should i have to pay them any more?? I don't have a problem with tipping a restaurant waiter- especially at a nice rest.-- if they are especially attentive to your needs, etc., but it should not at all be the requirement that it has become.

I am happy to tip someone who gives me great service, but if I get horrible service, I don't tip and I don't feel bad about it.
And if anyone wants to cry about how hard it is to be a server, I've been there and done that. Yes, it was hard work, but that still doesn't mean that bad service deserves a tip.
And it is up to your employer to compensate you, not the customers. They are already paying their money to the restaurant, money which should be going to pay the employees properly.

If you don't tip at restaurant don't be suprise if they do something to your food. If you don't plan to tip at restaurant than don't go back to it. I can say for sure that they will spit on your food! Maybe people at Starbuck is not giving you evil stare b/c of you not tipping but for other reason. I stopped by Starbuck on my way to work everyday. They are all very nice to me, no one expect a tip there.

I do think it's getting out of hand... people want to act like they aren't charging you so much cash by expecting you to figure out on your own to tip people and essentially pay the salaries of their employees -- and the number of people expecting tips now...!
I will say, though, don't stop tipping in restaurants. The waiters rely on the tips to make their living, and refusing to tip a waiter or waitress for their work is akin to stealing, at least in the United States. People who work most counter jobs, (like Starbucks) however, get by without it.
I've never been to a casino much less worked at one, so I can't say much on that situation.

I think you are cheap and ridiculous. Putting some extra change in a tip jar or giving a poor guy or girl working at a casino 20 bucks even if you win is not all that much. At a restaurant you need to tip 20 percent. Why go out and have someone wait on you hand and foot and then throw them 1.00 dollar. That is just to pitiful. My daughter is a waitress and I was in my younger age. Tips are what these people work for. Stay home and wait on yourself if your going to be a cheap jerk..............
