Alex, my 2 yr old male cat, is very playful and can play rough with me even sometimes. i have recently saved another cat and introduced her into my home. At first, she was very sick and unhealthy and he was by her side and i guess he sensed how weak and pathetic she was. now that she is better, i feel that he views her as a threat now and needs to prove himself. i've read countless message boards that all said one cat needs to establish dominence, etc....my question, is when will it stop?? he's already shown that he runs the show so to speak, but everytime she comes out of the room, he has to chase her and back her into a corner then proceeds to swat her. he doesn't make any noises; no hissing, or screaming, nothing. it is she that does that. i cannot keep them separated anymore..it has been three weeks already - we must go on with life. please let me know if you have any recommendations or advice....thanks.

It takes some time. I brought two male kittens into my home. I already had a female cat. They do have to establish dominance. It took 2-3 months. It helps if all are spayed or neutered. Hang in there... it'll get better. Be sure to give your older cat a lot of TLC so he does not have to deal with jealousy. It also helps to recognize his dominance... set his food down first, pet him first, etc...

Cats rule.... :)

We brought in a two year old male kitten last July. Our 4-year old neutered male was not happy. They still go at it some, but they actually seem to be "play fighting" a bit now. Our older cat was an adult when we acquired him and was raised with another cat, but that didn't seem to make any difference. He was not accepting of the kitten - probably because he wanted to play but was seen as an interloper - we did introduce them slowly. I'm hoping that in another six months we'll see them become buddies. It will just take time. Good luck!

I wish I could give you a timeline...perhaps your vet can? anyways, the worst case scenario is that you will have to give one of the cats up to a loving family you know or to your local animal shelter (look for a no kill one). Actually, it might be a hassle but you can keep both of them separated but it sounds like you don't like that as an option, most cats work it out on their own: three outcomes are most likely they learn to get along (and actually become friendly), tolerate each other, or constantly fight (causing one or both injury)...whatever you decide, Good Luck!

Your are right about the dominence thing, he was there first so he is gonna be that way until its understood that he is the ruler of the house, the other cat will eventually make her way into the family, and he will forget that he is the dominent one. It will get better.

yes this usually happens it will only go on for a little while just give it time and he will get used to the other cat being around or in the same house, maybe a month or two at the most, but still he may not let her eat with him that's just dominace to them.

geez, get a life, they're cats. Here's a recommendation, stop bringing stray cats in.
