Don't' give the puppies a bath..and please don't wash their eyes with a warm washcloth, unless you use a different cloth for each eye! eye infections are common in puppies, and you would spread any beginning infection to ALL eyes!!
Mom will not keep licking the puppies if they smell of shampoo, or anything else..
You can give mom a bath if she has a coat you can get dry within 2 hours..but if coat won't dry within 2 hours, she shouldn't get a bath until next week..be sure to rinse the tummy VERY well, so pups don't get any soap.. Use only baby shampoo or pure castile soap, such as Nutrogena..

I have rinsed a mom off with plain water a couple of days after whelping due to long hair on the hind quarters but generally you dont want to bathe either. Pups need to smell the mom to find her to nurse. I would only use a DOG shampoo as human shampoos and soaps are designed for humans. You can strip oils out of the dogs coat and skin causeing dry skin and itching.
As far as seeing a Vet... as long as the mom has plenty of milk is going to the bathroom good, and there is no smelly discharge coming out of mom. And the pups are pretty quiet and content then there should be no reason to see the Vet. You do need to worm mom and pups and the pups need their first booster at about 6 weeks you should see a Vet then. Good luck.

Newborn pups cannot have a bath! Not unless you want some dead pups. Mama shouldn't have a bath right now either. She needs to stay with the pups most of the time. You should have taken her and the pups to the vet the day after they were born.

when it comes to bathing dogs, if she is nursing, i wouldn't recommend bathing her til the pups are fully weaned off of her and strictly eating solid food. the reason for this is if you were to bathe your dog and get soap around vital areas, the pups run the risk of ingesting leftover soap. or they may refuse the nursing altogether. when they are young they rely soley on sense of smell to teach them who's who.
as for bathing the puppies, mom should do the job for the time being, their skin at that young age is so sensitive they could develop irritation to the soap you use. i would recommend waiting til about weaning age when they're more independent before their first bath.
if you are concerned about your dog smelling, you can pick up pet wipes at walmart to give her a quick touch up. avoid the nursing area tho.

At this time of year, my standard response to the itching question is that it is the dryness in the house drying out her skin. She may have scratched herself to the point of irritation and developed the red, angry looking skin. If it is dryness, shampoo her in an oatmeal shampoo (not people stuff) and use a compatible conditioner. The benadryl should help to reduce the itch. Also brush her daily to reduce dander and any shed that might tickle as it falls away and contribute to the itch cycle. There are also food supplements that can be added to her meal to replenish the oils that help to keep hair and skin soft and supple. Keep your vet appointment though, because if this is an allergy you may need something more than the benadryl to help.

wait a few months, as the mother is the caretaker of her pups and commonly cleans her pups her self.
