For the last three weekends on Fridays and Saturdays, my neighbor in my apartment building has had a bunch of his teenage friends over. They constantly slam the front door (right outside my door) and talk loudly outside on the back deck until way past midnight. Last weekend, I woke up at 1:30am to someone cursing loudly at someone else right outside my bedroom window. The phrase "booty call" was used many times as well as several other words I would rather not have to hear. If I ask them to be quiet and they don't, do I have the right to call the cops and report a disturbance of the peace? I work Saturdays, and this time of year is already stressful enough without losing sleep.

There are no parents. I haven't called my landlord (he lives in the building), but I'm surprised no one else has or that he hasn't heard it.

Absolutely and why haven't you done that already?? If you are just trying to be nice they haven't noticed yet, have they?
Many years ago, when I was a kid, we had noisy next door neighbors who "partied hearty" every Saturday night on their back patio and kept all of us awake. My father rigged up a tape recorder and put the microphone just outside of our window. We caught every loud, drunken phrase they yelled on a particularly noisy Saturday night and played it back to them the next day. That REALLY shut them up! No more noisy neighbors after that.
The scary thing about what is happening with the "kids" is that they may be making threats.
That happened to me last summer when our neighbor threatened his girlfriend with bodily injury right outside our window. I called the police and they arrived about 2 minutes later. He has since been evicted. There had been so many complaints about this man that he never did find out exactly who had reported him--apparently MANY people in our complex did!
NEVER be afraid of calling the police--that is what they are there for. I would, however, keep your name out of it, if I were you--it is not required information. You don't want one of these kids taking it out on you in some way.
And yes, let your landlord know what you are doing and that he needs to get involved with this situation, too. Make sure that you put your complaint in writing to him because without a "paper-trail" he can't do anything to help you.
You got lots of good advice on this one from the other folks. Good luck and have a safe, happy, stress-free holiday!
All will be well.

If you ask them and they do not respect other people nor have any consideration then YES You do have the right to call the police for every Community,City,County has a Noise Ordinance.I once asked for clarification and was told that if I'm in my house and can hear to point where its disturbing me then its a violation of that Noise Ordinance. I was also told to make a complaint one has to call while it is happening. Since you are in your home ,you have the right to your privacy and should not be disturbed by other people' noises esp if its under their control. You are also entitiled to get the sleep you need-th people being so noisy are not only violating the noise policy but infringeing on your rights. So-Call the Police. Usually they talk and give a warning, called again eventually a violation with a fine.If after all the pocedures-fines and so forth and it still continues there are further actions available under the law and the epolice will then inform of the steps you should take. The police also uses common sense an does not tell who lodged the complaint. A signature of yours is only required when you lodge a complaint through the courts-when the police warning and fining has no effect. Often police involvement will have the desired effecct and no further action is required. Good Luck

Yes you do. You have the right to call the police for anything. Where I live there is a noise ordinance that goes into effect at 11pm during the week and at midnight on weekends. If someone is being to loud after that time they can be issued a ticket or arrested if they get really loud. So go ahead and make that call. You should not have to put up with that stuff.

no longer a huge deal. I consult with myself as a "cop", that's in straightforward terms a slang term. because of fact the different submit stated all of it all started interior the 1800's whilst the badges have been produced from copper. I even have heard others besides. a million. NYC officers have been having admire issues interior the 1800's. whilst human beings might see them they might toss pennies at them, pennies produced from copper. they might say, "Your no longer well worth a penny" 2. COP stands for chief of Police 3. electorate as quickly as formed their very own stress, for that reason electorate On Patrol/ COP The record is going on, however the copper badge concept is actual the main the terrific option. Pig on the different hand, besides the shown fact that meant to be offensive, is actual a compliment delight Integrity Guts. i do no longer propose asserting that, yet thats how we translate it. Out of admire we are referred to as officers. remember admire is going a protracted way and it would artwork the two techniques. wish this facilitates.

Generally, after 10 p.m. you have the right to call the police. Document the dates and times so if there are issues with the landlord you can prove that you are in the right.
Good luck. Bad neighbors suck.

I would try the landlord first. If he doesn't do anything or cannot do anything, then go to the cops and don't be afraid to talk to the cops, you pay rent and deserve peace and quiet.

Before you call the police contact your apartment manager. They are supposed to help with this kind of thing. If they don't handle it or the noise continues after the manager talks to them then call the police.

Yes...but you would have to sign a complaint in most cities.....and the neighbor would be informed who it was that called the cops.
