What's the best way to cut two pineapple bowls out of a pineapple while getting as much of the fruit intact? Links to step by step instruction or just some key pointers would be great. Especially helpful would be ways to best do this without a curved serrated (grapefruit) knife. Thanks!

The Mother of Invention is Necessity. You don't have a curved serrated knife? I'll bet ever house has at least one plastic knife in a drawer in the kitchen, remember the plastic spork and knife you got with take-out? Soften it up over the stove and bend it to what you like, hit it with cold water and never say you don't have a curved knife

Use a regular serrated or normal sharp knife. Cut the husk/hard layer of skin off the pineapple (if you want the bowls without the skin that is). From there cut the pineapple in 2 lengthways. (by the way make sure you take out the "eyes" of the pineapple which might be still on the pineapple. Do this by slanting the knife so that your hand rolls in slightly and shave it off or use the point of the knife and in a small circular mosition "drill" it out.

Use an apple corer (two sharp serated edges opposite each other) to remove the husk/hard bit of the pineapple in the centre. Start at one end and carefully move down and aroung with the apple corer until the husk is cut out.

Hey Presto! You have two beautiful pineapple boats to do with them what ever you like. What were you planning on doing with them? I would recommend filling them with tropical or in-season fruit and topping with a scoop or two of rich vanilla ice cream and make a nice pineapple syrup to pour over the fruit. Alternatively you could go down a completely different path and coat the pineapple (the inside) with melted dark or dairy milk chocolate. From there you can put ice cream into it (delicious) or do what ever takes your fancy. I hope I've helped!
