Try united airlines. Their low cost carrier, Ted, does a direct flight from PHX to ORD (O'hare) for $180. Southwest offers the flight to Midway Airport for $210 and has much less quality. Don't go on southwest if the prices are the same!

Go to sidestep.com. They search airline websites, Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, OneTravel, and others that you probably don't even know about.
However, once you find a flight combo, if it's all on the same airline, go to that airline's website and search there; I got the same flights that OneTravel had at Delta.com for $20 less.
Happy travels!

Cheapest PHX-CHI I see is $210 on the 10:45 p.m. flight the 23rd, America West/US Air.

Depending how flexible you are, if you can somehow get to Vegas (one-way car rental, maybe?), then I see Allegiant Air to Rockford, Ill. at $87.80, total with taxes, on the 24th.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but it's good you're traveling before Christmas. We were looking into flying, and a roundtrip ticket price was almost tripled if we waited until after Christmas to fly.

sorry I can't help with the answer though lol :)

Aside from the travel sites, that airlines prefer selling round trip tickets, as it helps them better guarantee filled planes. The dirty secret is that it is sometimes cheaper to book a roundtrip ticket and throw away the return leg, than it is to buy a one-way trip. . .

As for sites, try: http://www.faremax.com, http://www.farepath.com, or http://www.whichbudget.com for starters. . .

9 times out of 10, Airlines guarentee the lowest prices on their website. Shop around - if you find something cheap on something like priceline.com, call the airline and tell them you found a cheaper price. See if they will match it.
