Generally larger dogs retain heat better because of their larger surface area. There is no set temperature as to when to bring it in. But, if its too cold for you, its probably too cold for your dog.

The same temperature that you would go inside to get away from. Short haired dogs feel the same temperature differences we do. Purchase a crate to put this dog in when it comes in to sleep at night. You will both rest a lot easier. You can also purchase an insulated dog house for this dog to go into and a blanket or something to "make a nest" to sleep in. Place the dog house close to your house to shelter from the wind. In any case, anything 40 degrees or lower the dog should be crated or in the house.

What type of shelter do you have for the dog. The igloo house retain more heat than a wood dog house. We have always gone by if it is still cold to you when you have your coat on then the dog will be to cold too. Remember that the temp will show one thing but always find out the wind chill.

If it were up to me, it would be against the law to keep a dog outside either penned in or tied up. Dogs are not children, but they have feelings. I don't understand WHY one would want a dog to keep outside. What pleasure could that possibly be for YOU or the DOG ??

It is not much of a life.........................I have always wondered that and no one has been able to answer that question. CAN YOU?!

I bring my dog inside when the temp at night is going to be below about 25F.

She's got a good sturdy dog house that keeps her dry and out of the wind, there's lots of bedding inside for her to snuggle up in, so unless it gets ungodly cold, she's fine. Thankfully she's smart enough to go inside it when she's cold!

If you're cold outside, the dog is cold outside. Remember, dog's normal temperature is 102 which is higher than our body temp so if you're cold your dog was cold before you were.

You go outside with a shirt (not a heavy sweater) and jeans. If you're cold, your dog is cold and needs to come inside.

I would bring the dog in when it's below 50, or raining, or windy, or if he wants to come in.
