My daughter's Bat Mitzvah is tomorrow and she is really nervous. She barely can think about anything else. I have no suggestions to get her over her nervousness. Do you people?

I see a question asked almost every day on Yahoo Answers about how do I conquer public speaking. Yours is the first I've written to.

It's too late (the night before) to suggest Toastmasters.

She's about to be recognized as a woman in the community so my 2nd suggestion applies: a shot of Wild Turkey. That's what we did when we argued moot court. LOL. It calmed the nerves and relaxed us.

Actually what I find helped me for public speaking is to speak right out of the belt. Being able to comfortably exhale and speaking loudly was like exercise and who can be nervous when they're on the treadmill?

Mazel tov to your family.

As someone who had a bar mitzvah, just tell her that all will be okay. Tell her to look at one person in the audience when making a speech that way she is comforted. Also, perhaps her friends can be around her for the other parts of the day. I'm unsure if you are doing the service and a party afterwards.

Mazel Tov. I'm sure you'll great. You're a mom. Treat her as if she was preparing for the school play and had a lead. Same idea.

Mazel Tov!

Remind her that she is smart and well prepared. Everyone is nervous. She can do it, etc.

Take her mind off it. If you are not observing the sabbath (I assume not since you are on the computer) take her for a drive or out for her favorite snack (if it is not too late where ever you live)
