well i think this is a desion you have to make
i think that you dont want to break up with him in person because you still have some feelings for the guy and doing it through email will make it so much easier for you because you know that when you say it in front of him that you still have feelings for him and doing it in person will give that away
this is a question that you need to answer yourself
the only person that should decide how to break up with him is yourself
because later on in life do you wanna look back and think to yourself what would have happened if i told him to his face instead of over email?
could we still maybe be together if we worked things out face to face?
this is a very diffiucalt question and the only person that can make this desicion is you because you are the only person that knows your true feelings

It might help us if you gave us the reason you want to do it by email? I can see potential reasons why it would be a good idea, like you expect a violent reaction or something. I've been dumped, and it can really hurt. I personally think it is better to tell him you found someone new, rather than tell him you find him unacceptable as a boyfriend. Most guys can understand they aren't the best, but few can accept a rejection based on merit. Please be as gentle as you can.

That depends on why you are breaking up. If he is spineless two timing bastard, then yes. Even then all you need to say is Get Lost! If he is a loser then why waste time?? BUT.... If he is kind to you and you just are not feeling him, you should tell him in person. He may have questions that deserves answers.
