Yes it is normal. He isn't actually concious when he opens his eye like that. He isn't trying to "look" at you, but his body is preparing itself for action if necessarily (that is, in the event that you are a threat).

no it`s not normal, but it`s not something to worry about either. There are some options for your case, and it all depends on some things that you haven`t mentioned. However, this happen more often to the dogs that live inside an apartment or house. I assume this is the case. Anyway, he might actually be more interested in his sleep than in what happens around, and if the dog is living in a house and has a very developed feeling of security, your noises might just annoy him, rather than make him curious. Of course his natural instinct is to try to figure out what was the noise, but as the security feeling assures him there is nothing to actually worry about, he probably doesn`t actually give a **** about who or why made that sound, and only wants silence. Nevertheless , if you encounter symptoms like , when the dog is awake and aware, you call him and he is unable to realize where are you for instance, you should consider taking him to the vet.
Hope it helps, have a good day

Yes, it's normal. The dog hasn't focused on anything yet, so the eye is in what position it was in when he was asleep. Dogs actually have double eyelids (an inner and an outer). The dog is probably opening only the first one, and isn't really awake.

All dogs do that, i have a base-hound in my house and he can sleep allot but every time someone come to the house he open one eyes and he looks on two directions and that's all he goes back to sleep or he gets up and tray to bark the best he can to the person inside the house. But the point is it is true he opens one eyes to looks around.

Dont worry. This is very normal. Hes just half awake and half asleep. He could be looking in a strange direction to see past his third eyelid, which comes from the side closest to the midline of his face.

So you startled your dog when he was sleeping and his eyes are acting kinda funny?...Gee- my husband is the same way- I wake him up and his whole body acts kinda funny- slow motion for about an hour!... Sounds pretty normal if you ask me...
