Away from the ocean will obviously be less expensive. Condos are cheaper. Away from the cities as well. The more conveniences you have the higher the price.

Not sure which Island you want to live on but, If you want to find a home you can afford look on the Big Island. I lived there for 3 years. The Hilo side is the cheaper than the Kona side. I live on both sides. My husband loved the Hilo side and I loved the Kona side. It does rain quit a bit on the Hilo side and it almost never rains on the Kona side. All of the other Islands cost a good bit more for homes.

nothing is "affordable" in hawaii. most of the houses near Honolulu look pretty small and old.

Hey, but look on the bright side -- being homeless on a beach in Oahu sure beats being homeless in Boston Back Bay in February!

I was in Honolulu in May& tour driver said around the city a shack of a house was priced at $600,ooo. milk was $8.00 a gal. eggs around $3.00 a doz. better have a rich uncle somewhere.

DO NOT live in Hawaii....it sucks here! good place to visit/vacation. But, not a good place to live. Lots of racist people.....you will see.
