You' re totally right!

"Eras" is the past tense form of the verb "SER" ( to be)

So the translation you mention is correct.

PRESENT

Yo soy
Tu eres
El es
Nosotros somos
Vosotros Sois
Ellos son

PAST TENSE

yo era
tu eras
el era
nosotros eramos
vosotros erais
ellos eran

ENGLISH

i am- was
you are- were
he is - was
we are- were
you are - were
they are- were

It means it is Your Turn to take care of the cat. In this sentence, "toca" means "your turn".

You are right!
"eras" translates as a past tense for 'were','was' in the Imperfect tense

"Eras" means "were" in your sentence.
I think you should say ...."when you were a LITTLE girl" to avoid the idea of implying that she is no longer a girl.
Eras joven. = You were (used to be) young.
Eras bonita = You were (used to be) pretty.

it's the imperfect "tú" form of ser.
the sentence reads: "Did you know how to swim when you were a little girl?"
