A lot of church life is about being "socially acceptable". And churches want people who give money, so if you look poor, then chances are that the richer people will get the respect and attention while you will be treated like a second-class citizen. I've seen it happen lots of times, too. If you drop a $100 bill in the collection plate, they will love you. If you drop a few coins in it, you will get a disapproving glance (if any glance at all).
It's another example of hypocrisy and it has nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus who supposedly wanted to reach out to everybody.

Ya know, you really don't know what another person is thinking. You've just made a vague assumption based on your own prejudices. Myself, I stay far away from homeless people because I know they can be dangerous. Angry, desperate people who have nothing to lose. Recently some of our local homeless people have been targeting women and demanding money. When they don't get it, they are assaulting these women. Avoiding strangers who could be dangerous is a wise thing to do. Anyone would shy away from a stinky, dirty person that they don't know anything about. What do you expect from these people? Why should a Christian behave differently than any other person?

Well, when you go to church you are supposed to go clean, not with an elegant suit, but clean. You may be poor but that is not a reason to be dirty. Besides, maybe people think that you are a delinquent or insane.
The Catholic church has help plans for needy people, but I think that is not what you mean

Because, despite the teachings of any religion, people are people. Everyone wants to be around people who are happy, healthy and successful. Obviously, when you dress like a poor person, none of those things would be in play.
I'd talk to the lay leaders (not clergy, lay leaders) of the churches that gave you the bum's rush. They still might reject you, but you've made your point.

That was a horrible generalization... Not all churches are like that so why say it? You need to find a new church, one that is watching your soul and not your wardrobe... My pastor runs a shelter for the homeless, we are organizing a food drive to give to the poor, and we have a come as you are mentality at our church, and that means spiritually and your clothes.

And there is another thing I have never seen. Although I am sure it does exist. Jesus warned us of that, so you are right in pointing it out. I still feel the way you carry yourself rich, poor, male, female, dirty, clean, whatever, you carry yourself with respect you will get respect. If you demand to be treated with respect people will respect you.

Blessed are the poor! Church people, read the gospel of Luke and see what the Holy Spirit says about rich people (like us).

Church people are sinners like everyone else. Go to church to search for God, people will usually dissapoint. By the way I know I'm not God's gift to the world, I'm simply a sinner... who knows he is weak at times.

You can't go in a church wearing dirty clothes, because they're "dirty". You know that.

A true christian doesn't do that. I wouldn't do that to you. We are all God's gift. The people that you are talking about are religious but not christians. They just go to church for show
