That's a cat for you. They are very loyal to those they love and couldn't give two hoots about anyone else.
I have a couple cats like that.

It's impossible to figure out cats. I have 4 & they're all totally differant from each other. One of mine, even after having her for almost 6yrs, still is to afraid of everyone to let us do more than pet her with only 1 hand & only on her back & only for a minute. She will come up to us & meow like she wants us to pet her, but runs away when she sees a hand getting close to her. She is really sweet & not at all mean, she never scratches or bites or anything. I think she just didn't get handled enough as a little kitten to get use to people, we got her when she was 6mo. But we love her & would never part with her.

Cats chose the people they like or dislike as we human creatures do. May be she just is timid. I have a cat that would run and hide no matter who came in. Only now that she is 20 years old will she be around people. Just cats. We will never figure them out.

Does your mom wear strong perfume or use heavily scented soap or shampoo? If she wears fragrances it may explain why the cat appears to dislike her in particular. As to being afraid of the other members of your family, I agree with other Answerers: cats have responses and make choices that we don't always understand.

Sounds like she is still a little wild. Some cats tame down better than others do.

Maybe someone was mean to her at some stage. Cats don't trust everyone and maybe she thinks your mom is a threat.

sarah at the top iz right i mean mi cat only luvs mi dad and he isnt scared 2 bite or scratch or growl at any1 else! lol but if its really bothering u or ur family try bringing her 2 PETCO or PETSMART or just a regular vet good luck! xoxo

cats pick you. you dont pick them they are independant creatures. my cat does the same thing he hates everyone but me and runs from them too. they tend to pick us because of the nature that they sense in us. I asked my vet and he told me the same thing i am passing on to you. good luck with your cat too.
