I'm a 28 yr old female, 5'4" tall, 120 pounds. I've been eating a cheeseburger, medium fries and small coke once a week, every week, all my life. I've decided not to eat fast food anymore. My cholesterol is 201. Will giving up the food help to lower it? I workout regularly, 5 times a week, lift weights, and eat pretty healthy otherwise - this was just my once a week mega fat treat and I'm done with it now.

Good for you! Giving up unhealthy fats can be difficult but you are worth it! You take incredible care of yourself... more of us should live up to your example in terms of exercise. But you're right, the unhealthy fats are not good for your arteries no matter how much you exercise and maintain your weight.
Adding wholegrain oat cereal or simply oatmeal to your diet will lower your cholesterol and then maintain it at a healthy level.

Hi Sydney,
Your weight is good, but cholesterol is too high.
We all know McDonalds food is mostly unhealthy for us, but some people eat it anyway.
To lower your cholesterol you will need to avoid trans fats(McDonalds food has too much) Yes, stay away from fried foods and unhealthy snack foods.
You may try adding flax seeds to cereal or flax oil, this helps to lower cholesterol naturally.
Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and whole foods( not frozen, salty or processed food)
Keep up the exercise, but 5 times a week seems excessive, try 3 times a week and walk 30 minutes a day on non workout days, your body needs time to relax. If you can't lower your cholesterol it would be wise to see a homeopath or naturopathic doctor, they have some fantastic products to help without using traditional medicines.

That is what I hear that giving up Fast food will help lower Cholesterol. I'm 29 and have high Cholesterol. Before you keep going out to eat McD's. Go and rent the Movie "Supersize me." It changed my whole perspective on wanting to go out to eat not only their but fast food. I didn't want to eat out as often or at all for that matter. I know many people that have watched this movie and have literally stopped eating at this place from watching this movie.
I would suggest maybe once every other Month to have your treat. Or try to find another healthy treat that you like that would be your "treat" for the month to work for.
I use to get Arby's Mozzarella sticks but no more since having high cholesterol. Now I find that the local health food store has Mozzarella sticks that are so much more health for you and very much tastier too. So that is my Once a month treat. For me to work for.

Its a GREAT start- I had to do the same thing a few years ago and it helped. Unfortunately, our livers also make cholesterol. My genetic make-up has my liver making more than I need so now I also have to take a pill to keep my cholesterol in check. Its not fun but it beats having the "big one" (heart attack as described by Fred Sanford).
Giving up all fat (cheese, ice cream, shrimp, beef, cookies, crackers, many baked goods, peanut butter)
Eat Omega-3 foods such as tuna, salmon, flax oil (makes good salad dressing), olive oil, etc.
Eat lots of fiber- cereal, oatmeal, I really like the chewy Kashi bars - my other relatvies with similar problems swear by metamucil but I cant stand that stuff
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but better to know and then use it to live longer/ higher quality

Overall, you seem pretty healthy. your cholesterol is not that bad and you exercise a lot which is good. It seems like you look forward to this meal and considering you don't eat it often and that you enjoy it, you shouldn't cut it out completely. Maybe eat it every other week and if you feel like you can't maintian that, go back to once a week. Perhaps, try to cut down on other sources of unhealthy eating, which aren't as enjoyable as your weekly mcdonalds trip.

Substituting something a little lower in cholesterol wouldn't hurt. You're at a healthy weight and sound pretty healthy overall to me- a weekly trip to McDonald's isn't killing you, but I suggest you check out their website for lower-cholesterol options or try reducing it to a monthly treat.

What you are referring to as Satan, is actually a big "dysfunction" inherited by the human mind. You may be able to guess the ultimate consequences of such dysfunction, unless proper controls are put in place, by responsible organizations and/or individuals.
