Because it is human nature to strike back when someone strikes us. The Bible instructs us to "turn the other cheek" - show love - in return for the evil. People have a hard time not reacting in human nature when evil comes against them. By my own personal experience I've found that all it takes is ONE time of showing love in return for evil & it opens up a whole new world of hope & opportunity not only for the transgressor but for the one who has been transgressed against. What a growth experience! It makes it easier the next time to react the appropriate way.
What you are failing to realize in this scenario is that the definition of "pure love" is GOD. Many people deny that God exists making it impossible for them to react to evil in pure love.

I think I know what you mean, but it is difficult to maintain a consistent output of love in some circumstances. Sometimes it can take a while for the love you give out to return to you, and often the negative aspects of life are more prevalent for a time...but yes in the long run love does overcome all things.

Unfortunately, life in this world is far from perfect. Satan is in mankind's mind every moment.
If you consider standing up and fighting for justice as something evil, then there would be no good left in this world. Sometimes force need to be used to protect yourself.
Take Adolf Hitler's actions as an example. Do you think we would be able to stop his evil doings if we showed him love? I think not.

some cannot grasp the concept of "pure" love as you call it.
When people come to realize that the world in general knows enough about being beat down, about trouble and pain then there will be the begining of understanding about the next phase-
the fact that a person who is hurting and suffering isn't looking for more pain, they are looking for PEACE...perfect love casteth out all fear.....if we expect to hate people into heaven and into churches...well...defeats the whole reason for churches and heaven both...

If that were true Jesus would never have been killed.
Perfect love does defeat fear.
1 John 4:8
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.

Or there's no such thing as pure love?
What about the evil that takes your love and uses it to keep hurting you?

There are lots of loving acts that take place everyday, but unfortunately the media doesn't or can't sell that product.
