Psalm 137 was written during the captivity of Israel by Babylon, if you'd bother reading the entire Bible. I've said it once and I'll say it again. Anyone can take the Bible out of context and make it say what they want. Such as: "Judas went out and hung himself" and "Go thou and do likewise". See what I mean?
Here in the text in question -Psalm 137- it is plain to see that the writer is looking forward to justice from God. The soldiers of Babylon did to the Israelites exactly what is written in verse 9. Now the tables are about to turn and God is about to rescue His people. Vengeance is mine, thus saith the Lord. I will repay. Nowhere does the Bible command or tell us to drown children or bash their heads against rocks. Next time you want to quote the Bible, quote it in context and know what you're talking about. That way you won't wind up humiliated by your own ignorance and arrogance.
PS. God did not tell Abraham to "kill" his son. God only asked Abraham to "offer" his son. There's a huge difference. And let us not forget that God did not let Abraham go through with it.

A more appropriate question that actually invokes thought would be "if God came to you and ask you to give away all of your possessions and move to Israel, would you do it?" I don't think God would ask you to bash your children's heads against a rock. Someone posing as God may but you shouldn't listen to that voice anyway. Too many people listen to that voice and that's why this world is going to Hades in a handcart.

This life is only a test for faith to determine our destiny in the Hereafter. Prophet Abraham was tested this way, to slain his most beloved thing in the world--his son. He was not happy with the decision, but God comes first before anything. Prophet Abraham asked his son if he was okay with it, and he agreed to it. But, right before he striked to slaughter his son, God was satisfied with Prophet Abraham's faith already and sent an angel to replace his son with a sheep. The sheep was slaughtered instead. Muslims celebrate this event every year which is known as "Eid-ul-Adha."

Moot. i have never and will neverhave kids.

But if God told me to kill my dog, I would. However he would have to go along way to convince me that he is God speaking and not...the other dude...

Doesn't seem like something that God would ask. I have always regarded the bible story of Abraham being told by God to kill his son as hogwash, or at the very least, the author got it horribly wrong. God knows all, he doens'nt need to test Abraham that way. Just a parable.

May you know the lord Jesus and have peace.

God told Abraham to kill his only son as a sacrafice and right before Abraham did it God stopped him and rewardded him for his faithfulness. If the Bible told me to, I'd pray about it and then in about seconds figure out there is no reason to, we don't have to offer sacrafices to God anymore, we just have to live our own lives.

What did we do to God's child, the precious Lamb of God. How happy was Satan then, do you think he was dancing with his demons. we can not take a verse and make it mean what we want it to, Satan does that when he appears as a angel of light. Yes the bible is a history book full of bloody gory story's people never cease to be wicked. Yes i do believe God cries over how wicked people are.

a verse cannot interpret itself alone for the other verses in the chapter will help us understands what does the verse does really mean.

as for the verse in Psalm, what was the precceding verses above it?? reading the whole chapter makes sense when interpreting. we do not interpret the Bible verse by verse.. =)

if the Bible tells me to, then i'll do it. why not, there's a lot more good benefit in obeying what was said in it. fortunately, it do not tells me to hurt my children.. =)

Does anyone really require biblical instruction for infanticide? Aren't the rising costs of college enough to warrant a pillow induced SIDS?

You've totally misinterpreted the Psalm. God didn't say that.

no, because I wouldn't believe in something violent with no common sense involved

You took that Bible verse out of context.

When it is talking about "they" it is referring to the bad people/entities in this world.

it is saying bad people/spirits will be happy when they make you, a good person, suffer.
