i was trying to find an australian shepherd (aussie) adoption agency somewhere here in NC (USA). i was trying to get one for my boyfrined as a suprise for christmas, he used to own one but she died 2 years ago and he hasn't stopped talking about them ever since. we know all about the breed and we have time to take care of one, we just dont have enough time for a puppy. So if anyone knows of an agency here in NC, preferably near or in Wilmington that would be great. i know he would just die if i got him one for christmas. PLEASE PLEASE help me out!!! thanks

PLEASE !!! NEVER buy a dog as a gift for someone else. The decision to own a dog is a life altering responsibility that must be decided about by the person who is going to actually care for, vet, feed, and exercise the dog. If you insist on doing this, PLEASE have a back up plan (will the breeder take the dog back?) if your bf is not ready emotionally for a new dog or if he does not want one at this exact moment in his life!!!!
I do aussie rescue and you have no idea how many aussies we get because someone wanted to get their parents/ bf/gf/ gma/ gpa yadda yadda a puppy for bday, Xmas, etc. who really did not want a dog. I have found that most people are very particular about when they want a dog coming into their lives, and actually want to pick the dog out themselves!
If you really think he is ready for another canine companion, then the best thing you can do is to get a picture of an aussie and wrap that up for him. For Xmas, let him know the offer of a new dog is on the table and that you are willing to pay for it... but have a back up gift, I have known people who are not willing even two years after the death of their friend to open their hearts and homes to another one that soon.

p.s. Most aussie rescues will NOT let you adopt a dog for another person, the future owner MUST fill out and sign all contracts themselves. You can still get started though! Google ARPH, check regional area of south east....
better yet, here is the carolina's ARPH page...

Yes!!! Get on the internet and look up "dog rescues." They have rescues for every kind of dog imagineable, even purebreds. I live in PA and got a catahoula lepoard dog from KY for $75. This included immunizations, spaying, flea control, grooming and the cost of the trip from KY to PA. She is the bestest dog in the world and I plan on getting all my dogs this way.

They have pictures, backgrounds etc on all dogs available. I did it completely over the internet and two telephone calls. Sadie was housetrained which was a big plus. The dogs are housed in a foster-type environment so they have lived with people and you can get the lowdown on how the animal responds to situations it might encounter living with you. This is all done on a volunteer basis so you know the people truly love animals.

I wish you luck

I have a 2 year old red merle australian shepherd male, one copper eye and one blue eye. He is a wonderful dog, always wanting to please and be with you. He needs individual attention, we can't give because of our jobs. I am giving him up because we already have 2 older dogs. He wants to play and they don't. He is full blooded shepherd and beautiful but no papers. I would like to see him go to someone who would give him the attention he deserves.

I live in southern Illinois but would be willling to meet you half way if you could pay my gas and travel expense. He would be free becauses it's chrismas. I know how it feels to lose a special pet.

You should be able to google Australian Shepherd Rescue. I know there is one down there - somewhere. The dogs run about $350 (I believe), if you are approved.
