things vary, most of them have restrictions on sending alcohol (obviously you don't want to further endanger their lives by including alcohol it'll just be poured out on the sand), porno mags but you can get by with them sometimes.
Mostly anything that will perserve and ship well. It can't really be chocolate in the summer time but right now it would be bad to send chocolate because the temperatures are cooling down.
There are so many lists out there of what you can send and whats not a good idea to send. Just check it out.

sauces - any type but tobasco they get that in the MRE's

Baby wipes, beef jerky, hard candy, a local newspaper (of were they a are from) , AT&T phone card, uniform T-shirts, Uniform socks, and anything else you think they would like....

just be sure not to send anything over that's homemade if you don't know the soldier (edible stuff like cookies)...

a report i saw on glenn beck said many of them want silly string. this helps them locate trip wires when going in to buildings, what better gift than something that may save theres and others lives. and a thank you

Body armor......seriously....not all troops have it.....I've heard of some families raising cash to buy their son Bullet proof vests....
Saddam Bobble heads are always welcome aswell.
