Why is it, in the Bible if someone claimed to have spoken to God, we believe it, but...(see details)?

if someone TODAY said they talked to God, or God told them to do something, we send them off to the loony bin?

Because "mainstream" Christianity has been telling us since about 400AD that God no longer speaks to man and hasn't since John the Revelator.

Of course since by their own decree, God couldn't have spoken to them, how would they have known for sure?

Because those people mentioned in the Bible led saintly lives, while nowadays most people don't.

There are very few people today who live saintly lives, but there are. Also, I've heard or read about people who had a vision or heard a voice which lead them to believe in God or to go to Church, but this was a one-time thing.

On the other hand, there are many warnings in Patristic literature and the lives of the saints against the possibility of being deceived by demons through false visions or voices.

And of course, there are people who are just crazy.

Look at all the material things we have today compared to the things they had back then. No Radio, Tv Game console, Computer, TV, electricity, etc.. One's mind would be open to the world about him more freely. We live compressed. In certain states you can look out your window and see your nieghbor through his window fifteen feet away. Today, look at all the religions we have. Anybody could run down the street and say, "Jesus is coming alive in me!" Or "Buddah is becoming one inside me!" So it's hard to decipher who's real or what.
